BATON ROUGE, La. - No. 18 Tulane beach volleyball suffered a setback in the final day of the Tiger Beach Challenge, losing to No. 20 FAU, 3-2, and falling to No. 10 LSU, 5-0. The Green Wave completed the weekend with a 1-4 record, moving their season record to 10-7 overall, 1-3 CCSA.

HOW IT HAPPENED
#20 FAU 3, #18 Tulane 2
The Green Wave kicked off the second day of the competition against conference foe and nationally-ranked FAU.

Senior Lan Nguyen and sophomore Tarin Mergener earned a flight win for Tulane against FAU's No. 2 pair. The Wave's duo won in straight sets, taking down their opponents by a score of 21-16, 21-19.

Freshmen Addison Hermstad and Ashley Delgado recorded the Green Wave's only other flight win of the dual. Playing as Tulane's No. 4 pair, the freshman defeated FAU's duo by a score of 18-21, 21-17, 15-12.

Tulane's No. 1 pair of senior Madeline Mertz and sophomore Kaylie McHugh lost their first flight of the weekend against FAU's top pair, Carly Scarborough and Amanda Silva. Mertz and McHugh fell in straight sets by a score of 24-22, 21-10.

FAU won flights three and five en route to winning the dual, 3-2.

#10 LSU 5, #18 Tulane 0
Tulane could not get rolling against CCSA opponent and in-state rival LSU, losing 5-0 to suffer its second sweep of the season and second loss of the day.

The Green Wave went to three sets in flights two, three and five, but could not pull out a single win. Mergener and Nguyen lost 20-22, 21-14, 11-15 against LSU's No. 2 pair while junior Anna Chin and freshman Lauren Olrich lost in flight three by a score of 21-16, 14-21, 20-22.

Delgado and Hermstad, playing as Tulane's No. 5 duo, also lost in three sets, falling 21-18, 12-21, 10-15.

UP NEXT
The Green Wave take their talents to South Beach. Tulane squares off against Georgia State, FAU, Florida State, FIU and TCU next weekend at Surf N' Turf, hosted by FIU, in Miami, Fla.
