In the opener on Friday afternoon, the Matadors evened their season record at 7-7 by defeating the Roadrunners for the second time in three matches this season. CSUN picked up straight set wins in the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 pairs while winning in three sets at No. 2.

Taylor Brydon and Lauren McMurray picked up their team-leading ninth win of the season after sweeping Sidney Wicks and Hana Makanova in the No. 3 pair, 21-19, 21-19. #7 CAL POLY 4, CSUN 1
Looking for their first win over the Mustangs since 2016, the Matadors (7-8) came up short, 4-1 in the late afternoon dual. Honeycutt and Maughan picked up CSUN's lone win in the dual as the Matadors' No. 2 pair improved their season record to 9-6. The CSUN pair defeated Brayden Grunewald and Vanessa Roscoe 21-9, 21-18.

The rest of the four dual matches went to the seventh-ranked Mustangs who won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.

Molinari and Waggoner fell to Tia Miric and Crissy Jones, 21-10, 21-6 in the No. 1 pair. At No. 3, Brydon and McMurray lost to Jayelin Lombard and Kat Wright, 21-15, 21-12. In the final two pairs, Delaney Peranich and Sam Manley snapped Nevarez and McLeod's three-match win streak (21-19, 21-14) before Heather Pembroke and Sjea Anderson completed the win for Cal Poly with a 21-8, 21-12 win over Rosso and Klein at No. 5.

COACH NOELLE ROOKE SAID
"1-1 was a solid first day, especially considering the extreme wind conditions we were competing in. We continue to compete and find wins against ranked opponents so I'm proud of the perseverance we continue to display."

The Matadors have two matches slated for Saturday and two more on Sunday. CSUN takes on No. 6 Hawai'i Saturday at 10 a.m. before taking on UC Davis at 1 p.m. The match between the Matadors and the Aggies is the first-ever meeting between the two schools in beach volleyball.
