Volleyball Win Against Orange CC and Rank 2nd in Region

(Middletown, NY) On Saturday the Women's Volleyball team competed in the Dig Pink Event. This was a tournament between Sullivan, Nassau, and Orange held in upstate New York. With only a few games left until the end of season playoffs, every game and match mattered.

NCC first took on Sullivan and came out victorious 3-2. Next up was Orange, who was fighting for 3rd place in the region and would need to win against the Lions to seal the deal.

Nassau came out strong winning the first game 25-15. Sullivan fought back and took the second match, making it 1-1. Ten points into the 3rd game, top player Alicja Zaborowska turned her ankle and was forced to sit out the rest of the game. The women faltered without Zaborowska and lost the 3rd match. They managed to turn their momentum around and the Lions went on to win the 4th and 5th matches to take home to win.

Head Coach Kristine Abrams commented after the game, " I knew we had no choice with our smaller roster to make our libero change mid-game to be a middle hitter. But the women adapted exceptionally well and showed that they can rise to the occasion. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do in the playoffs next week."

Although Zaborowska only played a little more than 2 games, she managed to tally 10 kills and 2 aces. Destiny Knox had 13 kills, 3 aces and 16 digs, while Emily Kaufmann had 12 kills and 30 digs. Jamie Demmett had a total of 34 assists.

These matches were the last NJCAA games of the season. The Lions only have 1 more regular season game before they enter the Region XV playoffs on Thursday.
