CofC Releases 2017 Beach Schedule

2017 Beach Schedule

CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The College of Charleston beach volleyball program will play four home matches during the 2017 season, all as part of the CofC Beach Classic, announced head coach Jason Kepner Monday.

"I am excited for the start of the Beach season," said Kepner.  "It is another opportunity for the girls to compete at the highest level. Being a member of the CCSA this season will really give the girls something to look forward to and compete for a conference championship."

The Cougars will open the season with a trip to Jacksonville, Fla. for North Florida's tournament on March 4 and 5. While the tournament schedule has yet to be finalized, UNCW, Spring Hill, South Carolina, and Florida International are slated to participate alongside UNF and CofC.

The CofC Beach Classic will be held March 24 and 25, and will feature Tulane, Mercer, Lincoln Memorial, and UNCW. From there, Charleston will travel to Wilmington, N.C. for the UNCW Beach Bash on April 1 and 2, where the Cougars will take on Stetson, UNCW, South Carolina, and Coastal Carolina.

Charleston will then make the trek to Jacksonville, Fla. for Jacksonville's Pairs Tournament on April 8 and 9, which will pit the Cougars against UNCW, UNF, and Jacksonville. The Cougars will close out the regular season on April 14 and 15 at South Carolina, where they will face Tulane, Jacksonville State, UNCW, and the host Gamecocks.

The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships await the Cougars April 21-23 in Emerson, Ga. The Cougars join UAB, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia State, LSU, South Carolina, Tulane, and fellow new member UNCW in the 10-team conference.

The NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships will be hosted by CCSA member UAB in Gulf Shores, Ala. May 5-7 for the second straight season. Beach Volleyball became the 90th championship sponsored by the NCAA prior to the 2015-2016 season; the NCAA does not currently offer automatic qualification into the beach volleyball championship for conference winners (a two-year championship history is required), but the CCSA will be in position to qualify for an AQ should they be offered in 2018.
