alembang, the co-host of the 2018 Asian Games, is hosting the “6th South Sumatera Governor Open 2017 — Asia-Pacific Beach Volleyball Tournament,” as a test event for next year’s quadrennial games.
The test event, running from Thursday Oct. 19 to Sunday Oct. 22, features 15 countries, including Australia and New Zealand, and is being held at Jakabaring Sports City (JSC) in Palembang, South Sumatra.
The beach volleyball tournament is the second Asian Games test event, also known as the “Road to the Asian Games 2018,” in Palembang after the “Asian Triathlon Championships” held in July with 22 participating countries from the Asia-Pacific.
“Based on the experience of setting up the previous test event, I’m positive that the beach volleyball test event will also be successful. I hope our athletes are winning in this tournament,” said Erick Thohir, president of the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC), in a press release.
In order to host a successful test event, the organizers have invited the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) to be the technical delegate for the Governor Open tournament.
“The AVC has given its full support to us, especially as the Governor Open is being held as a test event for the 2018 Games,” said organizer Slamet Mulyanto, from the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI).
