This 1988 Jaguar XJ-S was converted from a coupe into a convertible by Ohio-based coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt when new, and it is said to have been purchased by the seller’s late father-in-law in 2005. The car is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Grenadier Red over Barley leather upholstery. Equipment includes a tan convertible soft top, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, heated seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a cassette stereo. This XJ-S V12 is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of his mother-in-law with manufacturer’s literature, service records, a soft top boot, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Georgia title.
The Hess & Eisenhardt convertibles were commissioned by Jaguar and built between 1986 and 1988. This example is finished Grenadier Red with gold pinstripes and features quad headlights, fog lights, chrome trim, a Leaper hood ornament, a power antenna, dual exhaust outlets, and Hess & Eisenhardt front fender badges. Discoloration of the tan convertible top and included soft top boot is shown in the image gallery below along with paint chips and other blemishes.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels wear 205/70 Pirelli Scorpion STR tires showing 2012 date codes, and a non-matching spare is stored in the trunk. Bilstein shocks were installed in 2006, while braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs. Rust is visible on the brake calipers.
The cabin features heated power-adjustable seats upholstered in Barley leather along with burl wood veneer accents on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Interior features include a cassette stereo, an onboard computer, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, and automatic climate control with R134a-based air conditioning. The leather on the driver’s seat is cracked.
The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 68k miles, approximately 4k of which were added under current ownership. The instrument cluster was repaired in 2008 and total mileage is unknown.
The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 263 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.
Additional underside images can be viewed in the gallery.
Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale along with service records for work completed since 2005.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Georgia.
