WHAT'S HAPPENING

  • Boise State beach volleyball takes its 4-2 mark into the third weekend of competition as they head to the Islands for the Heineken Hawaii Invitational on Queen's Beach in Honolulu.  
  • The Broncos will play six matches while in Hawaii where they will face Nebraska (10-1), No. 6 Hawai'i (4-4) and No. 11 California (7-1) on Saturday in the opening round of the tournament. Then depending on those results they will advance into the semifinals Sunday morning against one of those teams, followed by either match for the title or third-place.
  • Monday afternoon will see Boise State take on Nebraska one more time in a match at the University of Hawai'i before returning home Tuesday.
  • Boise State has met all three opponents before going 1-3 versus Cal, 0-4 against Hawai'i and 0-1 against Nebraska.

LOOKING AT THE OPPONENTS 

  • Looking at the three opponents, Nebraska has gone 10-1 entering the weekend primarily against small schools.
  • Hawai'i enters the weekend at 4-4 and ranked sixth nationally; in addition, the Rainbow Wahine are 3-4 against teams ranked in the top-20.
  • Cal is 7-1 on the year and ranked 11th, of the seven wins the Bears are 1-1 against top-20 teams. 

LAST TIME OUT FOR BOISE STATE

  • Boise State beach volleyball traveled to Vancouver, Wash., last weekend for the Pacific Northwest Invitational where the Broncos reached the championship match before falling 4-1 to Washington.
  • Boise State opened the tournament with a pair of 4-1 victories over Oregon and Portland to improve to 4-2 on the year.
  • Kenna Hanses and Maya Watkins (3-1 overall) led the Broncos going undefeated on the weekend while playing at No. 5 pair.
  • Janell Walley and Kendra Bodine (5-1 overall) went 2-1 in Vancouver and suffered their first loss of the season playing at No. 1 pair against Washington. 

COACH BUCK

  • This is head coach Allison Buck's inaugural season at the helm of the beach volleyball team after two seasons as the assistant.
  • Buck is assisted by Hayley Peterson, a 2017 graduate from Idaho State.
