Cougars Announce 2019 Beach Volleyball Slate

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball program will take to the sand for 21 regular season matches this spring, including five at the CofC Beach Bash and six against teams regularly ranked among the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Top 20, announced head coach Jason Kepner on Thursday.
 
"I am excited about the start of the beach season," Kepner said. "We return an experienced team and have some good competition on the schedule. We are playing some schools that we haven't seen in a few years or ever before. I know this team is excited for the challenge and another great year in the CCSA."
 
The Cougars open the season at the North Florida Invitational on Mar. 1 and 2 in Jacksonville, Fla. Charleston is slated to face Florida International and North Florida on Friday, and UNCW and St. Petersburg College on Saturday.
 
The following weekend, the Cougars host the CofC Beach Bash at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Club in Mt. Pleasant on Mar. 8-10. Charleston will open the weekend against Florida Southern on Friday, followed by Saturday matchups with Texas A&M Kingsville and Huntingdon. Duals against Florida Southern and Carson-Newman on Sunday will close out the weekend.
 
Spring break will take on a different look for the Cougars this season, as the team embarks on a five-day trip to Puerto Rico from March 15-19. Based primarily in San Juan, the Cougars will spend the week training and engaging in community service activities.
 
Charleston resumes its regular season schedule the next weekend at the UNCW Dig and Dive Beach Bash. The Cougars will face Carson-Newman and Coastal Carolina on Saturday, and Florida Gulf Coast and Morehead State on Sunday. A trip to Atlanta for Georgia State's Diggin' Duals awaits on Mar. 29 and 30, where the Cougars will take on Arizona State, University of Tampa, UAB, and the host Panthers.
 
The Cougars travels to Columbia, S.C. on April 12 and 13 to take part in South Carolina's Palmetto Invitational – CofC's final event before postseason play begins. Coach Kepner's squad will square off against Missouri State and UNCW on Friday, and Tulane and the host Gamecocks on Saturday.
 
The 2019 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championship will be held at the Rally Volleyball Complex in the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga. for the fourth straight season. All 12 league teams will be in attendance and compete in pool play on Friday, followed by the semifinals and finals on Saturday and Sunday. The 2019 championship will take place on April 19-21.
