ATLANTA (April 18, 2019) – The FIU beach volleyball tandem of
Federica Frasca (Roma, Italy) and
Margherita Bianchin (Venice, Italy) have been named to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) All-Conference Team, the league announced on Thursday. In addition,
Ronja Klinger (Frauental, Austria) was named to the CCSA All-Freshman Team.
Frasca and Bianchin have been one of the most dominating tandems in collegiate beach volleyball. The Italian duo is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation at the one position, with the duo owning a stellar 19-5 overall dual record with all but three of their matches coming on court one. Frasca and Bianchin are 17-4 on court one and 2-1 on court two. They have won four of their last five matches and are 10-3 in her last 13 matches. In addition, they have recorded six top 30 wins this season, including multiple wins over Stetson's No. 17-ranked pair on court one.
Klinger has posted an 11-7 record this season, with all 17 matches being played with her sister Dorina. She is 6-3 on court two, 4-4 on court three and 1-0 on court four, and has logged four wins over top 30 pairs, including the No. 14-ranked pair on court two from Stetson. She began her collegiate career 5-0 and is 6-4 in her last 10 matches, with all 10 of those matches coming on court two.
No. 9 FIU, the three-seed in this weekend's CCSA Tournament in Emerson, Georgia, begins pool play on April 19, at 10:30 a.m., against 10
th-seeded UAB, before closing out the afternoon against the six-seed Florida Atlantic at 4:30 p.m.
The Panthers come into the weekend with a 14-10 mark on the season, 5-3 against CCSA opponents this year. The Panthers enter the tournament having won two of their last three duals, three of their last five, and nine of their last 15 to end the regular season.
