TREE WELL SAFETY WHAT IS A TREE WELL:

Tree wells are generally found in

ungroomed areas of deep snow, where

low-hanging boughs can create a

canopy preventing snow from filling in

around the base of a tree, forming a pit

of loose snow with air pockets. As the

snowpack builds up around the

branches, a deeper hole develops.

PREVENT FALLING INTO A TREE WELL:

You can avoid falling into a tree well by

not skiing or snowboarding near trees

in areas holding deep powder snow.

If you choose to ski or snowboard in

ungroomed areas of deep snow and

trees, remember:

HAVE A PARTNER:

It is critical to ski or ride with a partner

who remains in eyesight and earshot at

all times. You should stop and watch

your partner descend, then proceed

downhill while your partner watches.

RESCUE GEAR:

Carry the same personal rescue gear as

backcountry skiers or snowboarders. A

transceiver, shovel, probe and whistle

should all be staples in your pack.

Survival chances are improved if you

maintain air space. Over time, heat

generated by your body, combined with

REMOVE POLE STRAPS:

If you are a skier, remove your pole

straps before heading down a powder

slope. Trapped skiers have difficulty

removing pole straps, which can hinder

efforts to escape or clear air space to

breathe.

WHAT IF YOU FALL INTO A TREE WELL?

If you are sliding toward a tree well, do

everything possible to avoid going down

into the well, particularly in an inverted

position. Grab branches or hug the tree

to stay above the surface, or flop down

flat on the ground before hitting the tree.

IF YOU GO DOWN, RESIST THE URGE TO

STRUGGLE VIOLENTLY:

The more struggling, the more snow will

fall into the well from the branches and

area around the well and compact

around you. Don’t panic. First make a

breathing space around your face. Then

move your body carefully in a rocking

manner to hollow out the snow and give

you space and air.

Hopefully your partner sees what

happened and will come to your rescue

within minutes. If not, experts

recommend staying calm while waiting

for assistance.

1. The Parties reserves the right to refuse or revoke access at any time;

2. The Parties do not guarantee trail service, quality or lack of hazards;

SECTION II: CONDITIONS

I understand that by using the Facilities, I agree to the following conditions:

1. All trail signs, applicable laws, bylaws and regulations must be abided by;

2. Use of alcohol and/or impairing drugs is strictly prohibited on the trails, prior to use and/ or while using the trails;

3. Danger or damage to snowmobile trails or property must be immediately reported to the Club;

4. I understand snowmobiling is inherently risky and I freely and voluntarily assume all risks, and my use of the trails is entirely at

my own risk;

SECTION III: RELEASE OF LIABILITY, WAIVER OF CLAIMS AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING FULLY AND CAREFULLY. THIS WAIVER IS LEGALLY BINDING AND AFFECTS YOUR RIGHTS.

I hereby agree to release and discharge and keep their respective heirs, agents, successors and assigns of and from any and all

liability, loss, injury, disability, death or damage of and from any and all causes of action, suits, debts, damages, costs, claims and

demands of any kind whatsoever (including: indemnity claims, costs on a solicitor/ client basis, negligence) against the Parties, the

Province of British Columbia, land owners/ occupiers, or any or all of them (the “Releasees” herein), which I have, or which I

hereafter may have, for, or by reason of, or arising out of any accident, loss, injury, disability, death or damage occurring during my

use of a snowmobile trail.

I understand snowmobiling risks include, but are not limited to: injuries: possibility of permanent disability, death and injury;

natural hazards: changes in surfaces, ice, bare spots, rocks, stumps, debris, etc.; man-made hazards: fences, posts, snow

making/ grooming equipment, train tracks, roads, snowmobiles, persons, etc.; extreme, unpredictable weather; Ice, potentially

over water bodies; Equipment malfunction; Negligence: the Club’s negligence and/or negligence of others, including employees,

agents, independent contractors or representatives of the Club, which includes failure to take steps to prevent risks and hazards;

Animals (wild or domestic); Accidents or illness in remote places without medical facilities; Lack of cellular and emergency

services; Avalanches; Rockslides; Poor visibility; COVID-19 Exposure and Infection; Visibility changes. *This description is

non-exhaustive and unknown or unanticipated risks may result in injury, illness, or death.

By accessing the Facilities managed by the Club, I declare that:

1. I am unfamiliar with the trails, which may subject me to greater risk;

2. I am not relying on oral or written representations or statements made by the Releasees, other than what is included in this sign;

3. I forever waive my right to any action against the Releasees from any claim of injury, death, damage or negligence;

4. I have had sufficient time to read and understand this sign and receive legal advice, or have voluntarily waived my right to do so;

5. I knowingly and voluntarily agree to be bound by all terms and conditions in Sections I, II and III;

6. If any portion of this Sign is held void or unenforceable, the remaining portion remains in full force and effect;

7. Any litigation involving the Releasees must be brought within the Province of British Columbia;

RIDE IN CONTROL AND WITHIN

YOUR ABILITY LEVEL. You must be

able to stop and avoid other people or

objects. You must understand bike park

signage, trail ratings and trail progression.

Start slow and small. Ride trails and features

matching your ability.

PROTECT YOURSELF. Helmets are

mandatory in Bike Parks and strongly

recommended on all other trails. Other

protective equipment is strongly

recommended.

DO NOT RIDE if your ability or

judgement is impaired by drugs, alcohol or

fatigue.

INSPECT AND MAINTAIN YOUR

BIKE or have it checked by a qualified bike

mechanic before you ride.

BE LIFT SMART. Make sure you

have the physical dexterity, ability and

knowledge to safely load, ride and unload

lifts when riding at lift access resorts. Ask for

assistance with chairlifts and surface lifts if

unsure.

INSPECT TRAILS AND

FEATURES. Conditions change

constantly on trails and features. Inspect

features before use and throughout the day.

OBEY SIGNS AND WARNINGS.

Stay on marked trails. Do not cut switchbacks and keep off of closed areas.

LOOK OUT FOR OTHERS. Avoid

riders ahead of you. They have the right of

way. Yield to other riders when entering a

trail.

BE VISIBLE. Do not stop where you 9 obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.

COOPERATE. If you are involved in or

witness a collision or accident, you must

identify yourself to the Bike Patrol, staff

member or local authority.
