Looks good! I Love the ksc’s.

Yeah I’m pretty happy with it so far. Need to do a couple more mods and then I’ll compare with my KPH30i and Porta Pros.

OOO. So how does it sound? As opposed to stock.

After AB testing one side with mod and one without, I immediately noticed the bass became recessed. But the mids were WAY better. Also certain tracks I found sibilant before were much smoother. Hard to tell but detail retrieval possibly improved. Soundstage surprisingly didn’t change much. I might do this mod to my KPH30i now

And here I thought they were already recessed enough in the bass.
This does look like an interesting mod though.

Again, the slight pressure from using a headband (parts express or porta pro for example) increases the bass response a bit.
Still a great headphone! Recentl bought 2 more cause I keep giving them to others, lol.

Throw Yaxi’s on there and enjoy how smooth they sound. Before I did that I thought they got a little peaky and the bass just seemed unnatural, yaxi pads fixed that. They did the same with my prota pros as well.

On a side note, the KSC-75 works well when streaming Formula 1. Not really tried them with anything other than music, but streaming f1 practice from silverstone on my macbook with these plugged in works great

I think the imaging is actually great for the price, I like to think of them as the poor man’s competitive gaming solution.

I always failed to understand what anyone was talking about, calling the earclips on these uncomfortable, but after a number of recent listening sessions this summer I think I got it: I’ve been wearing glasses for decades, and if the glasses are off and I’m only wearing the KSCs, they end up sitting right on those spots where my pinnas attach to my head, where the skin is thickened and desensitized from the eyeglass arms. So of course I’m not gonna feel shit from the KSCs. But if I put the eyeglasses on in their usual position and add the KSC75 on top, they’re gonna be resting against a softer part higher up on the pinna, and they’re gonna start to cause pain after 1-2 hours.

This also puts a different spin on the “sure they’re comfortable for people with eyeglasses”: yeah, if you’re wearing them instead of your eyeglasses. Or another trick I’ve been doing since I realized this is to put the KSC75s on the “hard spot” first and then lay the glasses on top as gently as possible so they don’t add too much weight (have to tilt them forward a bit and rest more weight on the nose pieces).

I wonder if there’s a way to hollow out a broken set of headphones and mount these inside. I think they’d slide into Grados, but that’s not such a huge improvement. You could have fun tuning that cup though.

Guys, what mods did you use for your KSC75, I know the usual one with the headband mod where you replace the ear clips with a headband instead. I also know the MMCX mod where you can make your KSC75s have a detachable cable.

I am curious, what is the Kramer mod? does it have any benefits for it?

The Kramer mod involves drilling out more parts of the front grill to let through more bass/treble etc. But it’s a hard one to get right because everyone prefers different sounds, they hear differently and it’s a destructive process, so you can’t just copy the way someone else did it. If you drill out too many holes for more bass you can’t go back if it sounds bloated.

If you want to play with the sound it’s better to start with pad swapping.

There’s this post on DIY-Audio-Heaven that takes FR measurements on the coin mod and Kramer mod for the KSC75.

I can’t say for the titanium drivers, but 5 holes in my Porta Pro driver grills did change the extended treble quite a bit. I couldn’t discern any difference below 5kHz through frequency sweeps, but peaks past 5kHz became more piercing, and there seemed to be less roll off past 10kHz. I started noticing treble detail in music I couldn’t before.

Personally wouldn’t Kramer mod the KSC75 or KTXPRO1. Stock Porta Pro treble is really lacking in comparison, and I’m afraid it would make the treble a bit too sharp for my tastes.

Then I will take your word for it, and I guess the easier mods will have to do for me, like Yaxi pads replacement, if I want a headband, I would go for a headband mod and finally some MMCX mod in the possible near future for I have learned how to solder some stuff ever since I have fixed my M40x with some soldering done.

EQ’d them to my HRTF based on the Griesinger method. Done. No other changes.

The Kramer mod has 2 parts: 1. you drill extra holes in the front grille of the driver to allow more upper treble to pass, 2. you switch to deeper pads (not necessarily “thicker” as in material density, just putting more distance from driver to ear) with round holes cut in the center, a.k.a. “coin modded”, to recover the bass that is lost due to step 1 (which you can see on the DIYAH graphs, where they performed the 2 steps separately).

I got good enough results with EQ to not care to risk modding mine, but since I got a new pair in 2019 and stopped using my older one, and also have a Massdrop one, I might try it on my old pair one day just to see if I like it. I wouldn’t mid some extra air or slam or both out of these. But really I like my ‘main’ pair enough to not want to touch its structure.
