Preview: CCSA Championship

TCU faces UNCW and LSU on the first day of competition.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 18 TCU beach volleyball team is ready for its first appearance at the CCSA Beach Volleyball Championship. The event will be held from April 19-21 at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga.
 
The Horned Frogs (16-14, 4-6), who are the No. 7 seed, will begin pool play on Friday by facing No. 11 seed UNCW (8-13, 1-7) at Noon, CT, and No. 2 seed LSU (25-5, 12-2) at 3 p.m., CT. The top team from each pool after the conclusion of pool play will receive a bye to the quarterfinals. Teams finishing second or third in their pool will participate in an elimination round with winners advancing to the quarterfinals, both of which will take place on April 20. The semifinals and final will be played on April 21.
 
TCU Notables
TCU finished the regular season with a 16-14 record after going 2-1 at the TCU Invitational. The Frogs earned two 4-1 victories over UAB and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and fell in a tight 4-1 loss to No. 3 Florida State. The pair of Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett went 2-0 on the weekend and are now 20-6 overall. They have won eight of their last 10 matches and earned a victory over the Seminoles.
 
The Competition
UNCW last competed at the Palmetto Invitational, where the team went 1-3. The Seahawks picked up a win over Missouri State (3-2) and lost to Tulane (3-2), Charleston (4-1) and South Carolina (3-2). TCU lost to UNCW in its meeting earlier this season in a close 3-2 match.
 
LSU hosted the Battle at the Bayou and won all four of its matchups. The Tigers swept Nicholls, New Orleans and Spring Hill and beat ULM, 4-1.  The duo of Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss are entering the CCSA Tournament hot as the pair are on a 12-match win streak. TCU faced LSU at the LSU Beach Invitational this season and fell in a 4-1 decision.
