Beach Volleyball Announces 2018 Schedule

DeLand, Fla. -- Five non-conference tournaments plus a trip to Arizona highlight the 2018 Stetson University beach volleyball schedule, which was released on Monday.

The defending ASUN Conference champion Hatters are scheduled to play at least eight matches against 2017 AVCA Top 15 teams.

10975The Hatters will open the season earlier than ever, starting Feb. 23-24 with the Stetson Spring Fling.  The Hatters will host Eckerd, Georgia State, South Carolina, and Florida State at the Cooper Beach Courts.  The Gamecocks and Seminoles each reached the NCAA Championship in 2017.

Stetson will then compete at the FSU Invitational on March 2-3 in Tallahassee.  The tournament will feature matches against the College of Charleston and FIU as well as a second head-to-head meeting with the Seminoles on March 3.

The Hatters will host Texas A&M Kingsville, Florida Southern and Tampa as part of a home tournament on March 9.

Next, Stetson will host the Hickory Point Lake Bash in Tavares on March 16-17.  The Hatters will face UNCW, New Mexico, Florida Atlantic, and Houston Baptist during the two-day event.

Stetson will travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge on March 24-25.  The Hatters will square off against Spring Hill College, Tulane, the College of Charleston, New Orleans and LSU, another 2017 NCAA Tournament participant.

ASUN play begins March 30-31 with matches against Mercer and Coastal Carolina in Macon, Ga.  The Hatters have won 27 of their last 28 regular season ASUN matches.  Stetson will return home to face FGCU in a double dual on Apr. 4.

The Hatters will then enjoy their first trip to the state of Arizona where the team will play three matches at the University of Arizona on April 6 and two matches at Arizona State University on April 7.

The final ASUN matches against JU and UNF will be played in Estero, Fla. on April 13-14.

For the second year in row, Stetson will host the ASUN Championship at the Cooper Beach Courts on April 21-22.  The Hatters went a perfect 3-0 to win the title last year. It was the team's third postseason conference championship in the past four years.

The NCAA Championship returns to Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 4-6.  The Hatters will seek their second NCAA berth following an appearance in the inaugural championship in 2016.

Admission is free to all home beach volleyball matches in 2018.  Preseason practice starts in January.
