Wildfire season is coming.

Are you

Preparing Your Home for Wildfire

There are three ways your home can be exposed to wildfire:

Direct flames from a wildfire or burning neighboring house, Radiant heat from nearby burning plants or structures, Flying embers. Flying embers from a wildfire can destroy homes up to a mile away and they are responsible for the destruction of most homes during a wildfire.

To give your house the best chance of surviving a wildfire, here are some steps to get you started:

Use or install fire ignition-resistant materials around your home. Remove vegetation/debris from your roof, vents, windows, deck, and gutters.

Create and maintain the required 100 feet of defensible space.

Cut or mow annual grass down to a maximum height of four inches.

Inspect home for dry rot, gaps, or cracks. Caulk gaps greater than 1/8”.

Did you know...

Ensure all combustible materials are located 30 feet away from your home. venturafiresafe.org

Weed abatement is coordinated through the City, CRPD, COSCA, and the Ventura County Fire Department.

COSCA and CRPD perform weed abatement on over 12 million square feet. That’s nearly 275 acres of hillsides.

Weeds and brush are cut using weed whackers, flail mowers, and chainsaws. The material is left for a couple of days to dry and then it is raked and hauled away.

Every year, many parcels need to be re-cut due to new growth. This year, nearly all of the parcels had to be re-cut and a fair amount had to be cut a third time due to the rains.

Come enjoy a performance in our beautiful Theatre on the Hill from our award-winning youth theatre company, the Young Artists Ensemble and Hillcrest Players for five shows a year. Experience an evening or afternoon at the theatre with our presenting partners Allwayz on Stage, Gold Coast Theatre Conservatory, California Shakespeare Company, and Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repertoire Company throughout the year.

Grab a group or create a date night at our 18 and over Comedy on The Hill evening on the second Saturday of the Month for a steal at $15 per ticket.

We also offer classes for youth, adults, and seniors five sessions a year in visual arts, performing arts, relaxation, writing, and fitness. You can find a class everyday of the week in a new way to participate in arts and culture. Try something new like Capoeira, Watercolors, Ballet, Writing or Publishing a Book, or Ballroom Dancing alongside some of your favorites like Tai Chi, Yoga, Acting, Singing, Drawing, and Moving From Your Center.

Some of the local agencies that offer opportunities to participate for residents at our site are the Conejo Valley Folk Dancers tearing up the dancefloor every Wednesday night, the People Sketchers help you hone your life drawing skills every Thursday morning, or the Conejo Gem & Mineral Club helps broaden your knowledge at their monthly meeting.

Our unit oversees the Elementary Music Program at 18 schools in the CVUSD through chorus, strings, and band programs during and afterschool hours. Fall session information will be shared at your local schools, make sure to be on the look out to sign up and for more info.

If you are a local arts or culture group looking for a space to perform or practice, there are some rental spaces available for this specific purpose during evening and weekend hours.

Visit www.hillcrestarts.com for more information about the Hillcrest Center for the Arts and to purchase tickets for events in our center.

AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT ( ADA ) COMPLIANCE: MISSION STATEMENT

Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) strives to enrich quality of life through the provision of quality recreation programs. We welcome people with disabilities in all recreation opportunities provided by CRPD, both through specialized options (Therapeutic Recreation) and inclusion alternatives.

Please contact Devon Herbert at 805-495-6471 or Inclusion@crpd.org for further information on program choices, for help with making a selection, or to request a program modification. In order to evaluate and seek to reasonably accommodate your individual needs, we ask that you let us know of any requested modifications at the time of your registration.

ADA GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

CRPD has developed an internal grievance procedure for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by the United States Department of Justice regulations implementing Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Complaints should be addressed in writing to ADA Compliance Officer, Conejo Recreation and Park District, 403 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 or by email at ADAcompliance@crpd.org

• A complaint should contain the name and address of the person filing it, and briefly describe the alleged violation of the regulations.

• Complaint should be filed within 30 days of the alleged violation.

• CRPD will conduct an investigation and notify the complainant of its findings within 30 days from receiving the written complaint.

Use of this grievance procedure is not a prerequisite to the pursuit of other remedies. CRPD strives to have all participants enjoy their experience in our programs and works to handle all concerns in a timely and fair manner. ................ Phone ............... Email/Website
