With a carefully curated list of parts, this 911-powered Porsche 914 is an incredibly compelling tribute to the 914-6.

The Porsche 914 is generally one of the more unloved models in the automaker’s history, but we’ve always loved the pint-sized machine, mostly for the way it drives. However, we rarely see modified versions of the 914 – at least ones that are anywhere near the masterful 911 creations that emerge from multiple shops around the globe on a regular basis. And that’s precisely why this cool custom 1973 Porsche 914 from Bring a Trailer caught our eye – it’s easily one of the most well thought-out builds we’ve ever come across.

From the outside, the casual observer may believe that they’re looking at nothing more than a very nice stock 914, but the keen eye will notice that it’s wearing composite 914-6 GT-style rocker panels and fender flares covered in Marathon Blue Metallic  paint, a custom front chin spoiler, a 914-6 GT engine panel, and a set of polished 16-inch Fuchs-style wheels, which are currently wrapped with Toyo Proxes R888R tires measuring 225/45 in the front and 245/45 in the rear.

The interior of this Porsche 914 is likewise tastefully modified, with a MOMO Magnus Walker steering wheel, a Wevo shifter, aftermarket pedals, latch and link seat belts, and 914-6 branded floor mats, which blend in quite nicely with the standard black interior.

The mechanicals present on this ride, on the other hand, have been modified extensively. Underneath that shiny skin lies an array of suspension upgrades, a list that includes an Elephant Racing bump steer kit, 22mm front torsion bars, Elephant Racing 17mm front spindles, Quick-change camber plates, Von Level 2 front shocks, Koni Yellow sport rear shocks, 200-lb. Hypercoil springs on adjustable spring perches, a Tangerine Racing rear suspension inner pickup, a Heim rod brace, Tangerine Racing trailing arm bushings, and an adjustable front anti-roll bar.

Continuing that trend is a 3.2L flat-six taken from a 1985 911 Carrera, which was rebuilt prior to installation and fitted with some upgrades that include bigger cams, an aftermarket oil cooler, a high-torque starter, a custom exhaust, and various other bits and pieces. It sends power to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a Quaife limited-slip differential for what we imagine is brisk performance.

Add it all up, and you’ve got one of the cooler custom Porsche 914 builds out there, and bidders clearly agreed after driving the sales price up to a healthy $65,000. But then again, how often do they get a chance to buy something like this?
