Phoenix Rise Over Ravens

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson College women's volleyball team squared off today against the Ravens of Rosemont College this afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match. The Phoenix (7-10, 4-3) defeated the Ravens (5-18, 1-6) three sets to none and by scores of 25-7, 25-19, and 25-19.

How It Happened: In the first set, Wilson took control of the game and never looked back. The team was firing on all cylinders as they cruised to a 25-7 victory in the set. Junior Laury Jean Baptiste (Fort Lauderdale, Fl., Coconut Creek) and freshman Tia Jones (Springfield, Va., Lake Braddock) both contributed three kills in the set. The second set would show some adversity for the Phoenix as Rosemont was able to jump out a 7-3 lead early in the set. Wilson would bunker down and battle back and tie the game at 9-9 before a Ravens timeout. The teams would trade leads back and fourth throughout the second set, with more than nine lead changes in this one. Freshman Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, Hawaii., University Laboratory School) would fire off five kills and three aces for Wilson. The Phoenix would complete the set and win, 25-19. In the third set, Wilson jumped out to an early five to nothing lead. Rosemont would battle back, however, and bring the score to 7-5. The Phoenix would answer with several strong rallies and extend their lead to 19-15 before a timeout. Wilson would go on to finish the set with six unanswered points and win the set 25-19, giving them the advantage three sets to none.

Inside The Box Score: The Phoenix would have 14 aces in this one, while holding the Ravens to just one. Wilson was able capitalize off of 56 digs for the match. Jones would finish the night out with nine kills and freshman Kristina Zuniga (McAllen, Texas., King George) capped off her afternoon with four aces and 28 assists.
