The P9X79 Workstation is easy to work with and provides a stable foundation for my i7 3930K. Since this is my first Intel and ASUS combo in over ten years, I can tell you this is a great board for programmers/designers or enthusiasts. The new point-and-click BIOS is so simple to use your system should be stable on first boot up. The layout provides 6 expansion slots and there are plenty of SATA connections as well...I ran out of drive bays before I ran out of SATA connections! With 7 HDD and 1 SSD, a video card with 3D, RAID and audio cards along with a Blu-ray combo ROM and a DVD/CD burner...not to mention an Antec 920 and 5 other fans...with all that, this board runs very cool. Even the 32GB of G.Skill memory runs cool. If you need more USB ports or and external fire wire connection, ASUS provides cards...but you use up an expansion slot.

In short, this board is all you'll need. Do not hesitate...buy it now! And if you're still not sure...check out Tom's Hardware site.

Ok this is Asus and I have never had a problem with these board, they are rock solid.. A few warnings though on THIS board.. It si really a dedicated gaming ONLY board. it has 4 graphic card slots and NOTHING ELSE, no pic, no pcie nothing. so no sound card upgrade possible, no new network card ect ect nothing, the only way to add anything is though usb. as long as you can live with that you wil be fine with this board.

I recently built my system around this board and opted for a powerful PSU to drive it. looks like one of the best PSU's on the market will not work with this board, an Antec HCP-1000 Platinum (modular). How do I know this? I just got my second PSU today in the mail after RMA on the last one and the same issue. Why I disqualified the board as the issue? I had a spare PSU on my shelf, plugged it in, and it fired up. I was even able to install my OS. Just an FYI. Everything is seated, correct wires are connected, etc. Don't go down that road. Its put together 100% correctly.

I got this board because it was suppose to be sturdy. The first board had a bad bios so they replaced it now after two months the computer is constantly shutting off mid stream on its own. I removed everything except the video card and still same. Swapped out the PSU and still same. Called asus support and told them what was happening and they said I had to wait 48 hours and they would send me a replacement but the shipping was on me. It has been 4 days and still no word. I have been a big fan of asus for years until now. I have a vx7 laptop and a g73 plus another desktop, but this is putting a new light on them. I'm looking at a different mfg and guess ill have to write it off a crappy customer service.

I bought this board from Amazon, and I delayed a couple of weeks getting it installed. Everything went just fine, except that the onboard USB 3.0 19 Pin connector had a missing pin, and therefore it wouldn't function properly. Amazon was great (as usual) in taking it back for full credit. Unfortunately, Amazon didn't have another board to send me as a replacement, so I had to buy a replacement from another source at a slightly higher price.

However, once I installed the replacement, it functioned flawlessly (including the USB 3.0 onboard), and I've got my i7-3930K running at 4.2GHz, with 32GB of 2133 MHz RAM, H80 water-cooler, and assorted and sundry other goodies. It never goes above 70C degrees, even when running flat out (6 Cores x2 Hyper-Thread = 12 Cores @ 100% utilization) while recoding video for more than 2 hours at a clip. I've never been able to consistently maintain that type of heavy load on a board without some problems in the past. I'm sure that I could push this higher, but 4.2GHz is quite sufficient for me. Make sure you flash the BIOS to version 3101, it's the best version. Enjoy!

required firmware update to even get it to boot. I've grown weary of broken English explanations and labels in bios. How is it that a company as big as ASUS cannot afford to hire an English speaking technical writer. It would just take one person and they wouldn't even have to speak Chinese, just interface with the person who currently writes their "English" instructions.
