What’s Bruin: UCLA Beach Volleyball Earns Top Seed in NCAA Tournament

It was a busy weekend across UCLA Athletics. Let’s catch up on What’s Bruin.

UCLA Beach Volleyball

The #1 UCLA Beach Volleyball won the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championship on Saturday by defeating Southern Cal, 3-1. The Bruins are now 35-3 and have won 30 consecutive matches.

Yesterday, the NCAA announced the Beach Volleyball Tournament bracket and the Bruins secured the top seed. As a result, UCLA will face 8th seeded Florida International on Friday morning.

UCLA Baseball

The Bruin baseball team broke out their brooms and swept Cal Poly over the weekend. Yesterday, UCLA beat the Mustangs, 6-4. Chase Strumpf hit his ninth home run of the year in the seventh inning. Ryan Garcia won is fifth game of the season and Holden Powell earned his sixth save. The Bruins have now won seven in a row for the first time since 2015.


UCLA Softball

The #1 UCLA Softball team swept both of their doubleheaders this weekend against South Dakota and #21 Oklahoma State. On Saturday, the Bruins beat South Dakota, 4-1, and Oklahoma State, 7-0. UCLA is now 44-3 on the season.

UCLA Men’s Tennis

The #2 ranked UCLA Men’s Tennis team won the Pac-12 Championship Saturday by defeating Southern Cal, 3-1. The win earns the Bruins an automatic bid in the NCAA Championships. The NCAA pairings will be announced tomorrow.

UCLA Women’s Tennis

The Bruins fell to Stanford, 4-2, in the Pac-12 Championship final on Saturday. The loss ended an 11-match winning streak for UCLA.

The NCAA Tournament pairings will be announced tomorrow at 2 pm PT.

UCLA Women’s Water Polo

The UCLA Women’s Water Polo team lost to Southern Cal in the MPSF Semifinals, 13-10, and then again in the MPSF Third-Place Game to UC Berkeley, 8-3.

The NCAA Women’s Water Polo Tournament pairings will be announced at 5 pm PT today.

UCLA Women’s Golf

The Pac-12 Champion UCLA Women’s Golf team has earned the #1 overall seed for the NCAA Championships. The Bruins will head to the NCAA Regionals in San Francisco which start next Monday. The top six teams from each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, OK.

UCLA Gymnastics

Finally today, we want to remind you that UCLA will celebrate the Bruins 115th NCAA Title this afternoon at 3:45 pm in Bruin Plaza.
