SEATTLE--()--IMDb (www.imdb.com), the world’s most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content, today unveiled the Top 10 TV shows of 2017 and the Top 10 most anticipated shows and miniseries of 2018. Rather than base its annual rankings on small statistical samplings, reviews of professional critics or Nielsen ratings, IMDb uses data from IMDbPro’s exclusive TV rankings to determine these lists, which are based on the actual page views of the more than 250 million monthly unique visitors to IMDb.

IMDb’s Best of 2017 section features a variety of additional year-end Top 10 lists, more of which will be unveiled over the coming weeks, as well as retrospective photo galleries, trailers, original videos (including an In Memoriam video) and other year-end coverage. “Game of Thrones’ unprecedented six-year run as the No. 1 show of the year as determined by IMDbPro’s exclusive TV rankings, speaks to the creativity and artistry of the more than 5,000 cast and crew who have contributed their talents to the show since it premiered in 2011,” said Matt Kumin, Head of IMDbPro. “IMDbPro is the essential resource for entertainment industry professionals who serve both in front of and behind the camera.”

Rick and Morty joins our 2017 list at the No. 4 spot, making history as the first animated show to chart on IMDb’s year-end Top TV list,” said Keith Simanton, IMDb’s Senior Film Editor. “The Adult Swim show broke out this year. The show’s plea to bring back McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce made national news, and the introduction of ‘Pickle Rick’ quickly became a fan favorite, among many other memorable highlights of this last season.”

“Four new series premiered on our top 10 year-end list in 2017, not only connecting with audiences, but also beating out established shows and fan favorites including Westworld, Mr. Robot and Orange is the New Black, all of which ranked on our year-end list in 2016, but were dislodged from our top 10 in 2017,” said Simanton. “13 Reasons Why charted at No. 2 this year. Fans of the show also fueled the popularity of two actors on IMDb's list of Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2017: Katherine Langford (No. 5) and Dylan Minnette (No. 6). Langford was so popular that she not only made it onto our Breakout Stars list, but she also charted at No. 10 on our Top 10 Stars of the 2017 list. American Gods (No. 7), The Defenders (No. 9) and Taboo (No. 10) also made their debut on this year’s list.”

“As we turn our attention to 2018, it is very revealing to take a look at the new TV shows our customers are eager to learn more about,” said Simanton. “The Alienist, based on the international best-selling book of the same name, starring Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans, is the 2018 show IMDb’s customers are most interested in, based on IMDbPro’s authoritative data. IMDb page views also indicate that fans are excited to welcome the Conner family back into their homes with the revival of Roseanne. With the popularity of his show American Gods this year, executive producer Neil Gaiman’s 2018 TV mini-series Good Omens is tracking high on fans’ Watchlists, possibly due in part to the recent announcement that Jon Hamm has joined the cast. With so many new shows premiering in the New Year, don’t forget to add the series you are most looking forward to watching to your IMDb Watchlist, and get notified when they air.”
