The Sony VCL-ECF1 E-Mount Fisheye Conversion Lens is an additional lens for those who want to experience the fisheye effect on their Sony NEX cameras. It gives that ultra-wide angle perspective on the 16mm lenses of NEX-5 and Nex-3 cameras. This converter lens made in Japan has the same finish and fit as the other NEX lenses. It uses an aluminum alloy material on the outside with a silver finish which perfectly matches the silver of the other lenses. Sony took a non-conventional take on the rear and front caps of this lens by using snug plastic covers. This lens also comes with a non-removable lens hood. This Sony VCLECF1 E-Mount Fisheye Conversion Lens mounts on the front of a 16mm lens right after the filter threads. There is a red dot on top of the converter which matches up with a red dot on the lens for easier mounting. The converter can also be mounted upside down like a bayonet type hood which does not make any significant difference to the image quality. There is very minimal and very easy to control lens flare and ghosting using this converter lens. There is also insignificant light-off or vignetting but still because of the wide coverage of this lens some light-off will take effect when the sun is in the sky. When mounting the Sony VCL-ECF1 E-Mount Fisheye Conversion Lens on 16mm lenses, users can expect minimal color fringing affecting their images. The Sony adapter lens is not compatible with regular filters and does not have a rear gel slot. It has a minimum equivalent aperture of f/3.2-3.5 since there is light loss of half a stop when it mounts on a 16mm lens. There are no contact points between this conversion lens and the camera so the camera does not know that it is mounted, also, the EXIF data of images taken with this lens on only reflects data from the 16mm lens. Weight-wise, the Sony VCL-ECF1 Fisheye Conversion Lens is a fairly light addition to a photographer’s camera setup since it is only 150 grams. It measures 1.75 inch in diameter and 2.62 inches in height making it easy to put in its clam-shell carrying case, one of the accessories included in the lens’ packaging aside from the front and rear caps. This adapter lens is built with four elements in four groups. It has an equivalent focal length of 15mm which gives it users a 180-degree angle of view. This compact Sony 15mm converter lens is also great for video shooting. The amazing 180-degree viewing angle turns a simple shot into a magnificent picture. It also helps in shooting at narrow places since the user can take more of the scene into the frame. Its ultra wide-angle capabilities lend itself to be useful for taking some specific photographic needs such as outdoor, landscapes, and environmental portraits. The Sony VCL-ECF1 E-Mount Fisheye Conversion Lens produces clear and crisp images with a little bit of softness at the edges. Its 180-degree diagonal viewing angle produces unique full frame fisheye images with no border.

    Great converter if you're into fisheyes

    If you own a Sony NEX and have the 16mm f2.8, and you like shooting landscape, cityscapes... this is a must have, especially if you can find one used with good price. I won an auction that ended rather low, plus the same seller had another auction of the ultra wide angle converter, which I also won with low price... So for me, it was a GREAT value.

    Magnifisent

    I believe that this lens sould be in every videographers case. Make the simpliest shot into a magnificent picture that is something ow some to boost your editing. Oslo it helps in very narrow places, you can grab the hole picture. Another thing is also the extraordinary atmosphere from the paramorphosis at each end of the picture ( fish eye lens)

    Great converter for cheap

    Great addition to sel16f28 lens. The optical quality is reasonably good. I probably would not recommend it for any professional usage, but it is a great lens for fun.
