PRESIDENT NIXON THANKS AN OLD FRIEND FOR HIS ENCOURAGING LETTER AFTER HIS UNPRECEDENTED FOREIGN POLICY NEWS CONFERENCE ON VIETNAM

RICHARD NIXON.
Typed Letter Signed: "RN" as President, 1p, 6¾x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1970 July 22. To Mr. F. Peavey Heffelfinger, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Light ink stamp in upper right: "Noted/F.P.H." In full: "Your comments about my conversation with the three network representatives on July 1 are particularly gratifying. I was pleased to hear from you and I want to thank you for your encouragement. With my best wishes." Signed by President Nixon with his initials, which he reserved for friends. On the evening of July 1, 1970, President Nixon held an unprecedented, live one hour foreign policy news conference from the ABC studio in Hollywood, California, the same studio in which he debated then-Senator John F. Kennedy in 1960. ABC, CBS and NBC reporters were present. He discussed his Indochina policy and his peace plans for Vietnam. The Peavey Company was a family-held, Minneapolis-based grain merchandising and processing firm. The F.H. Peavey & Company was established at Sioux City, Iowa, in 1874 by Frank H. Peavey. Minneapolis became headquarters of the firm in 1884. The name of the business was changed to the Peavey Company in 1962, went public in 1973, and, in 1982, was acquired by ConAgra, Inc. FRANK PEAVEY HEFFELFINGER (1898-1979) was the grandson of Frank H. Peavey. He had served as head of the Republican National Finance Committee during the Eisenhower Administration. Slightly soiled in blank lower margin. Staple holes in upper left corner. Horizontal and vertical fold. Otherwise, fine condition..
