Do you know how to read the tire size printed on all passenger and light truck tires?
Let's use a P225/55R17 size tire as our reference:
P – stands for passenger or P-metric tire
225 – represents the section width from side wall to side wall
50 – refers to the aspect ratio, which is the sidewall height reflected as a percentage of the section width
R – stands for radial construction
17 – is the diameter of the rim in inches
Being able to read and understand the size of your tires may not seem all that important, but when speaking to a tire professional, providing the correct tire sizing will ensure you receive the proper service you are looking for!
