About power distance... Today marks a significant milestone for me as I reflect on my journey as a Graduate Assistant at University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School —a journey that has been incredibly enriching over the past four months. During this time, I've come to realize that the Office of Equity and Inclusion truly embodies the essence of a positive workplace, setting a remarkable example for how both employees and students should be treated. Reflecting on my coursework in the Spring'23 at Nazarbayev University, when I immersed myself in the course "Intercultural Communication," I gained invaluable insights into power dynamics and cultural nuances. Honestly, at that time, it was eye-opening to understand how employers, managers, and bosses may share the same level of authority in the workplace... Now, having experienced the work environment in the U.S. as someone from an Asian background where high power distance is prevalent, I find that the professionalism and work culture at the Office of Equity and Inclusion deeply resonate with me and leave a lasting impression... Though I rarely share LinkedIn posts😁, today I was inspired by the kindness of my manager, prompting me to articulate these positive emotions in writing:) I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my managers for their unwavering support and approachability❤ Their guidance has provided me with the space to nurture and showcase my leadership skills. At 18, I was offered a promotion to Regional Library Manager. This was my very first job, and I was I was just 7 months into it. It didn't just happen because I was Rachel Wells. It was the result of 5 fundamental principles that shaped my work ethic and opened the door to advancement: 🟧1. Go The Extra Mile I learned early on that exceeding expectations and adding a touch of joy to a customer's experience creates ripples. Anticipating needs and building genuine connections not only elevates the company's reputation but also sets you apart. 🟧2. Pay Attention to Detail Doing the bare minimum is never enough! Treating your work as if it were your own business ensures that every aspect is thoroughly vetted. It's the attention to detail that truly defines excellence. 🟧3. Ask Questions Curiosity fuels growth. Don't shy away from asking questions. Embracing a teachable spirit, especially in a role where experience might be lacking, demonstrates a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to learn quickly. 🟧4. These principles are not just about climbing the corporate ladder but about personal growth and embodying a brand that's true to oneself.
