What is Ketosis. Is it Healthy & How Can I use it to Get Rid of Unwanted Body Fat?

The terms Keto, Ketones & Ketosis seems to be thrown around A LOT lately BUT what is It, How does it work, and most importantly is it safe/healthy?

The body's cells use glucose as their primary form of energy. Meaning FIRST, before protein or Fat. The other 2 type of Macronutrients.

We generally consume these from foods and drinks with:

monosaccharides - such as glucose, galactose and fructose (simple sugars)

Disaccharides - such as lactose, sucrose & maltose (Complex carbs)

The body breaks these down into simple sugars. Glucose can either be used to fuel the body or be stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen.

Once glucose levels are depleted the body begins to utilize existing body fat stores to provide glucose from triglycerides.

This process creates a bi-product known as ketones.

Ketones build up in the blood and are eliminated through the urine.

So basically if you have unwanted body fat you wish to burn, during that process you will be experiencing ketosis.

You can not burn existing body fat without being in ketosis, it’s a necessary function. However ketones are technically and acid and can become toxic over an extended period of time leading to a process called ketoacidosis.

BUT in the short term, ketosis is VITAL for burning fat.

I recently spoke of the 3 physical phases of body transformation:

Phase 1 – Cleansing

Phase 2 – Metamorphosis

Phase 3 – Sustainability

Knowing which phase you are in will assist you are knowing the best way to eat and train for you. The truth is IF you want to lose body fat FAST AND keep it off we NEED to be in a state of Ketosis HOWEVER phase 2 – The metamorphosis should only be 3-12 months maximum!

Eating and training to lose body fat FAST in a state of ketosis and calorie deficit is CRUCIAL for weight loss BUT cannot be maintained permanently

In fact its unhealthy.
