A Studebaker Story Phase Two - The Hawk

Recommended Posts

Gouged the front apron to accept the frame horns. Better now but still off. May have to move the entire front suspension aft a bit.

The resin kit provides  Hawk hubcaps. Painted them up. Still need to do the S in the red inserts.

Pat,

I will be following this one. I have one of the Missing Link Resin Gran Turismo Hawks in my collection to be built also. Mine has been mocked up and is ready to be painted. That red one you showed looks quite good. I worked for a man in the early '80's who had a Black one with a red interior. They have always looked very nice to me, and your '64 is very handsome. Thanks for the detail pictures. Now all I have to do is get the paint.

Me being me i broke a few things taking the Starliner's suspension apart. So I had to make a few things.

Painted the S in the wheel centers.

Lost one of the flattened exhaust tips supplied with the kit. My car had beveled round tips so I made some.

I thought I had a shade close to the "Moonlight Silver" of my car with this Duplicolor "Spruce Green" but it is way off, much closer to pewter.. That's the way it'll stay.

Started on the interior.

Printed three sets of '64 Studebaker colors. Moonlight silver actually looks closer to what I bought than my car. So it is possible that when they repainted it they used another shade altogether.

Working on the engine among other things.Used the Starliner's basic assembly, added the resin Hawk valve covers and added two filler caps to same. Made a dual four intake using an Avanti part and a top from the parts bin. Used some of the leftover Avanti belts & pulleys to make up a supercharger drive and alternator drive.

Added a "chrome" strip to the roof to edge the vinyl. Completed the BMF. I feel like I applied around two hundred square feet of it. Next is the clear. I don't know whether I'll brush some pledge on "à la Harry" or whether I'll attempt to airbrush it or just go with the rattle can clear.

The engine is complete save for the air intake & filter. It sits further forward tn the chassis than it did as a Starliner engine due to interference between the supercharger, fuel pump and upper A arms. I'll sleep on this tonight.

Thank you all for the good words. I did some carving on the chassis and now the engine sits in its mounts.

Made a futile attempt at a vinyl roof. Will have to start again with better masking tape.
