Those of you wanting to know what the color "really" looks like ...

Have you never seen a 2012 Boss 302 in Competition Orange ??

Or how about a Competition Orange 2004 Mustang ??

It is the SAME EXACT COLOR.

For 2004, the color was available on ANY Mustang and was a very popular color for the Mach 1 model (6416 total / 1039 Mach 1's).

For the 2012 Boss 302 it was the MOST COMMON COLOR ... 1134 were Competition Orange cars out of 3248 total.

If you've ever seen one of these 7550 Orange Mustangs in person, you've seen the color Ford is using in 2015 !!

It is also the same basic color as 1964.5-1965 Poppy Red / 1969-1970 Calypso Coral / Early 70's Competition Orange ... name changed but color stayed the same.
Lots of classic Mustangs / Fords out there were painted this color from the factory.

I have said before that it reminds me of Poppy Red. My Dad had a 55 Studebaker Champion Coupe that was painted 65 Mustang Poppy Red and people always said it was Orange.

Same problem I see is people seeing Comp. Orange and saying that the car is red.

While the names are the same, the orange on the Boss 302s seems a little darker shade than the SN-95 Mustangs. I've looked at not only Mach 1s and Cobra, but also the Boss 302 quite extensively. The paint codes are different also.

The 2015 orange looks more like the '04 Mustang's color to me.

I'm starting to think that Ford added some pearlescent to the CO color which is why it seems to change shades of orange in certain light.
I saw this color at the Honolulu Auto Show. The orange looked pretty flat to me. Hope this pic loads.

Some others.. The new pony doesn't do anything for me. I feel that Ford gooned up the front facsia and headlights. Corporate grills might be good in general but the Mustang is a niche car. I sincerely hope the car does well but if they chance anything I hope its the front end and that design by committee interior. Ironically the 14' Shelby next to it attracted more viewers.

I have not seen a 2004 Mustang & 2012 Boss 302 side-by-side, which would be the only way I could agree with your statement about the 2012 being "a little darker shade". You say the paint codes are different, but in your chart you show code "CY" for all 3 years of Competition Orange ... was this a typo ??

My Competition Orange '04 & my Calypso Coral '69 were off by a shade or so too, but the paints were different and applied 23 years apart.

1981 Dupont Centari Acrylic Enamel
vs.
2004 Base Coat Clear Coat (water based too)

It is hard to see the slight shade difference in my pic with my yellow '98 in between but the '69 is a tad darker.

There is only one way to resolve this - line up all those cars (Boss 302, Mach 1, 2015 vehicle) in your driveway and compare :)

I thought I had seen it all, and then you drop this one on me. 10-spoke rims, full painted valance, AND a non-tri-bar pony... V6? Ecoboost? Who knows??

All Except that Fully Painted Rear Bumper/Diffuser. I just Hate It! Ford should Paint the Side Skirts and Splitter if they are going to do that because as it is it just looks like the car has been hit in the rear and repaired and painted by a cheap bodyshop that couldnt be bothered to mask off the Diffuser and just sprayed the Whole Bumper Cover.

Two Mustangs in Competition Orange -- one GT and one base model.
