My new purchase...1985 yellow Iroc-Z
So I've been a long time member of TGO and always enjoy learning and reading others threads, but don't post very often. I've had multiple third gen's over the years, but always wanted a yellow Iroc ever since a family in the small town I grew up in had a yellow 86 with the gold package. Always remember that car through high school. Well, after searching on and off over the years and recently running across a wonder family at the right time, with prayer, I picked up this 28k mile Iroc. I purchased the car from the second owner's daughter whos parents bought the car in 1987. It was one of many cars they owned and took great care of it. She even has her dads 68 SS Camaro that he bought in 69! Sadly, both of her parents have passed away, but she plans on keeping that 68 SS to pass down to her son and keep it in the family.
Along with the history, it came with a lot of cool documentation as well. Copy of the original window sticker, build sheet, receipts over the years and a picture of her mom the day she picked the car up. She even had pictures of her dad removing the factory stripes in 1998 because they preferred the look without. I went ahead and ordered some replacements from Phoenix Graphixs. The other nice thing is the car was built in March of 85 and has the factory G80 posi before the shortage.
I wanted to start this thread to keep the pictures and some history on it. These pictures are right after I got the car. Hope you enjoy.

Congrats! Beautiful car! Personal opinion, but I like the yellow cars better without the gold wheels, but like I said, that is just me....

Sweet car!!! I remember when I was a little kid, and still have, the Car & Driver issue they first tested the IROC with then new TPI. It was an identical yellow car as yours. They raved about the new powerplant and other upgrades GM did with this new "IROC" model.

Scott, you may want to reach out to JT and request a name change. Your current screen name is Scott's 83 foot Z. That makes for a long car. You should request "Scott's '83 Z".

That is a beautiful car. I've always had kind of a soft spot for yellow.

There is something about the yellow. I had a 91 Z28 that was white with red deluxe cloth interior. Definitely my second favorite. Tried tracking the car down only to find out it was totaled.

Question...have many of you seen the fog light switch below the dash. Typically it's always right below the headlight switch, but I've seen a few with it underneath that. Was that another early 85 thing?

Another cool thing with the car. It came new from the selling dealership with the 160mph speedometer. They did that along with the door edge guards, scotch guard, polish, wheel locks, etc...all the "add-ons" back then, lol.

Re: My new purchase...1985 yellow Iroc-Z
Wow, such a cool car! That's an interesting placement for the fog light switch. My '85, built in May iirc, has the switch in the normal spot. That speedometer was an aftermarket unit. I don't remember who manufactured them, but I remember seeing them advertised in Super Chevy magazine.
I've always wanted a yellow one. Been close to buying a couple cheap ones many years ago. *sigh* Maybe one day.

Maybe if @scottmoyer returns from his Camaro-less vacation, he can contribute and explain the fog lamp switch placement. I know it's been a previous discussion as some others had the same location but I don't know if the reason was determined. I'm not as familiar on the Camaro side.

Yeah, they were built by the Corvette Clinic for 85/86 Z-28's, Iroc's and for 86 Monte Carlo's.
Keep looking, hope you find one!

Re: My new purchase...1985 yellow Iroc-Z
The IROC-Z, requiring fog lights, also required a place for the switch. Since 1982, the rear wiper switch was below the headlight switch, so the fog lights switch was installed on the lower panel. Later on, the wiring harness was modified to move the wiper switch to the center console.

We're going to have to have a TGO get-together at Springfield's Route 66 Mother Road Fetsival, or Powerlight Car Show.

Re: My new purchase...1985 yellow Iroc-Z
I used to go once a year on a Friday night but not any more. It has been ruined by organized car clubs. I could be convinced to go if there are some people to cruise in with. But I would be more interested in just meeting with a small group somewhere, maybe grab a burger, stuff like that.

I never made any of the Friday night ones and the one Saturday I went to the weather wasn't very nice so I spent more time on the road than I did there.

Thankfully! Now we just need the wind to stop blowing 100mph, lol.
I didn't realize they already had a Friday night lights. You going to try and make the Cars & Coffee in East Peoria coming up May 7th?

If we stick to the small towns (and stay out of Peoria) then we should be able to find good places to meet and not have to worry about our cars and hooligans. There are some fast-food joints near me with expansive parking lots that are always open. The historic shopping square in Washington has some antique stores, bakery, candy shop, and stuff like that. There is Braker's market on the edge of Eureka where they have a good sandwich deli and outstanding cinnamon rolls but parking can be tight, especially on Saturday. There is the Busy Corner Cafe in Goodfield where they have tons of choices of pie.
Maybe we see how many people we end up gathering together and we'll decide what to do.

Probably not. The car clubs have ruined Cars & Coffee in Peoria. I'd rather have a more cozy gathering of friends at a burger joint and kick tires in the parking lot, maybe go for a little cruise.

Beautiful car man! Mine is a May build of 1985 with the fog light switch in the same spot as yours. Yes its factory. I am also lucky to have the G80 option before the shortage. Unfortunately yours is a California car...only because the VIN sequence is different from the Norwood cars. Not as easy as comparing the last 6 digits between the CA and OH cars.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
