The Jaguar E-Type is an instantly recognisable shape even to a non-petrolhead - this particular example is something a bit special.

With the long bonnet and a 4.2L inline-six hiding underneath, it is thing of beauty. It isn't just pretty to look at, it also has an ability to get up and go. With 0-60mph dispatched in ~7.0 seconds and on to a top speed exceeding 150mph - quite a thing in the '60s.

This specific car lived in Texas until 2017 when it was brought back to the UK by Jaguar Classic to go into their preparation and resale program. However, it ended up in storage as the project was cancelled and that's when Paul stepped in to buy it. It's had recent extensive servicing work which included a brake overhaul, new exhaust, and ignition system refresh. On top of that, the cabin is largely new too, making this a beautiful example of the "Series 1" FHC.

Meet the owner

Paul told us the car is in its original colour scheme of Opalescent Sliver Blue with a Dark Blue interior - a stunning combination we think.

Paul has owned the E-Type since 2021, he has carried out necessary work on the car including a new battery, header tank, cooling hoses, stainless steel exhaust, master brake cylinder and servo, front brake calipers and low pressure vacuum hoses.

The E-Type has been upgraded with a modern alternator and electronic ignition, as well as being fitted with wider wheels and new Pirelli P4000 tyres, giving a nicer appearance and better handling too. It also features a UK spec rear axle ratio (3.07) with the speedometer being calibrated to this.

Paul told us he has covered around 200 miles since the work has been done to shakedown the car - it has performed faultlessly.

Oh and for those of you that don't know Paul, well he worked for Jaguar Cars / Jaguar Landrover Ltd as an Engineering Manager for over thirty years. His career took him through core Engineering Design to Special Vehicles and latterly Jaguar Heritage / Jaguar Classic where one of his achievements was the technical strategy and planning for the ‘E Type Reborn’ Programme. Paul also worked on various projects that included the re-manufacture of body panels for the E-Type and replacement tyre development for XJ220. Paul really is an E-Type specialist and fastidious in his nature on any mechanical or engineering job he works on.

Exterior

Beautiful lines, stunning colour, an iconic car from all angles - this example is simply beautiful.

Wheels and Tyres

The chrome wire wheels looked in great condition, with no kerb markings. Being ultra picky, we did notice some slight marks on the centre lock of the wheels but nothing major.

This car has wider 6J wheels with as new Pirelli P4000 205 /70 ZR 15 tyres for appearance and handling improvements.

Bodywork

Bodywork is in excellent condition - and all panels look to line up very well too.

If were being picky we did notice a couple of scrapes on the underside of the body with a little bit of corrosion coming through, but this is only a very slight issue we think. There's a very small ding on the NS bonnet - you'll have to look hard for it.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The beautiful Opalescent Silver Blue paintwork looked great in the summer sun. We didn't notice any swirl marks on the car, we did notice what appeared to be a slight scratch just in front of the driver's door. We also noticed a few blisters on the lower side of the driver's door, this is thought to likely be a paint reaction because it's showing on a few places on the body that are not consistent with rust, and that fits with the cars' location history.

There are also a number of paint chips and marks here and there consistent with an older repaint. The paint isn't perfect but the overall effect is very impressive as the images show with a nice level of gloss and shine supported by very nice panel gaps and profiles throughout.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks to be in good condition - we didn't notice any chips or cracks in any of the glass.

The chrome trim looked to be in good condition too with very little pitting.

The front passenger side bumper looks a little worn and Paul told us he had another one that looked in better condition which he would swap onto the car.

Interior

A shoes off policy for this beautifully trimmed blue leather interior - sounds excessive but you'll understand when you see the images.

Seats and Carpets

The car is presented with largely new cabin trim to include leather seat covers, carpets, ambla and hardura trims and dash under cards.

Paul tells us the footwell carpets and their insulation are new - we just noticed that the carpet on the rear looked a bit tired.

Dashboard

Classic dials, the two main ones, speedometer and rev counter sit large behind the steering wheel. All the switches you need sit across the wide dashboard - all looked to be in working order,

Paul told us the trip didn't work on the speedometer but the speed indicator works well.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The lovely classic wooden rimmed steering wheel sits proud in front of the driver, looking it good condition around the rim.

The wooden topped gear stick looked to be in good condition too with little signs of wear, even the gator around the bottom looked in good condition.

Mechanics

The 4.2L inline-six peeks out from the vents in the bonnet - a lovely sight.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine started first time with no issues, it sounded great and looked in good condition too, with no oil leaks noticed during our visit. This is to be expected given the ignition refresh the car has had; new plugs, leads, caps and conduits, electronic ignition along with a new battery. The car has also seen a new header tank and cooling hoses and a new stainless steel exhaust as part of the work.

The gearbox performed well also, with smooth shifts and no unusual noises witnessed from either the engine of gearbox. Importantly it has a Euro spec rear axle ratio (3.07), exactly per a UK car, for relaxed cruising and the speedometer is calibrated to suit. Please take a look at the cold start in the "On The Road" video to see for yourself the performance of the engine and gearbox.

Suspension and Brakes

On our drive with Paul the suspension seemed to perform well, we didn't witness any strange noises coming from the suspension. The brakes have had a recent overhaul with new master cylinder, associated low pressure and vacuum hoses, along with new front calipers, and performed well.

The Drive

As mentioned above the E-Type was running well, the gear changes were smooth and the car managed the bumps well, with no knocking noises witnessed - a pleasure to have a ride in.

Electrics and Other

Electrics including the radio were working as expected, and Paul told us all the electric were in working order apart from the aforementioned speedometer trip that is stuck at 10,263, and the clock.

History and Paperwork

Originally from the US and now back in the land of its manufacture - a simply stunning S1 E-Type that's ready to be used and enjoyed, after recent extensive servicing and a ~200 mile shakedown.

The car comes with a small amount of paperwork as it has only been in the UK since 2017, however, it does come with title certificate from its time in California, as well as an import certificate and recent MOT. A heritage certificate has been applied for and will be added later this week.

Paul, not much is said about the solidness of the bodywork. It looks like new footwells are fitted. Is there any other metalwork that has been done, such as the boot pan, doorskins or sills?

I am hoping to visit tomorrow at 10 am but waiting to hear confirmation
