About the job

Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer (SWE) goes way beyond just Search. SWE Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a SWE Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. SWE teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way.

Search Qualification Platform (SQP) is a part of the Search Platforms team and responsible for ensuring Search Development Correctness and Productivity by delivering a cohesive end-to-end qualification solution. One of the key areas of focus for SQP is improving the velocity of search development to accelerate growth and innovation, through transformative speed of product development at scale.

Our team focuses on building and maintaining the infrastructure, tools, and frameworks essential for faster, more reliable Search development. The inherent variability of search results makes this a complex, time-consuming process. To accelerate testing and validation of growth hypotheses, we've developed a framework for prioritizing projects that improve our tools, APIs, and infrastructure. This includes leveraging LLM-powered solutions to enhance coding, code reviews, debugging, testing, migrations, and knowledge discovery.

In Google Search, we're reimagining what it means to search for information – any way and anywhere. To do that, we need to solve complex engineering challenges and expand our infrastructure, while maintaining a universally accessible and useful experience that people around the world rely on. In joining the Search team, you'll have an opportunity to make an impact on billions of people globally.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and launch core capabilities of the SQP Platform, in alignment with Search Velocity goals.
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of our tools, APIs, and infrastructure. This includes leveraging LLM-powered solutions.
  • Be passionate about Search's Gen AI possibilities and opportunities for the infrastructure to help realize them.
  • Uphold a very high bar for overall technical quality and execution, maintain a "platform mindset", and actively participate in technical design decisions to help SQP scale.
