Head of Risk and Compliance, Strategy and Operations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 14 years of experience in compliance, risk management, investigation, auditing, legal, or consulting.
  • 10 years of experience in a people management, supervision, or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's degree in a technical, quantitative, or business field.
  • Experience as an industry thought leader with thorough knowledge of the compliance landscape and adjacent areas including risk assessment methodologies and internal control frameworks.
  • Ability to collaborate and build effective working relationships with cross-functional partners, executives, and second line teams.
  • Ability to understand and articulate the big picture to highly technical teams, while maintaining exceptional attention to execution details.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop a team of compliance professionals.

About the job

The Global Business Strategy and Operations (GBS&O) team is responsible for providing insightful review, perspective and direction on the strategy and operating performance of Google’s Global Business Organization (GBO). GBO comprises all the sales, services, product commercialization and business development/partnerships teams that power Google’s multi-billion dollar ads business.

GBS&O is part of the Global Go-to-Market (GTM) organization that ensures Google's large and complex advertising business is pursuing the best strategy and executing flawlessly. Team members are experts in business strategy and operations, principled and strategic, yet highly pragmatic and results-oriented.

As a Manager in Ads Policy, Risk and Compliance, you will lead strategic initiatives that safeguard Google’s ability to operate in an increasingly complex ads ecosystem, with new and at times fragmented laws and reporting requirements. You will lead a team responsible for core risk management and compliance including assessment, reporting, remediation and governance. You will undertake efforts to make compliance a competitive advantage for GBO, driving impact at scale across a global operation.

In this role, you will bring structure to complex challenges, and move seamlessly and efficiently from ideas to action. You will influence difficult stakeholders, and bring a balance of strategic thinking and pragmatism in getting things done.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $202,000-$287,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for developing, shaping, and maintaining the compliance program on behalf of the Global Business Organization, coordinating across partnerships, sales, and support teams globally.
  • Own decision making and execution for large, complex compliance projects and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with second line teams on control design, training and awareness initiatives and issue/incident management programs to ensure compliance with policy requirements.
  • Lead and influence cross-functional, global teams to achieve business objectives in compliance, holding partners accountable where necessary.
  • Work with executive leadership to define, launch, and drive strategic and operational initiatives. Communicate findings and progress to executive leadership with executive-ready updates and thoughtful facilitation. Provide timely updates on urgent, business impacting issues as needed.
