Head of OTT Broadcast Engineering, YouTube

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in technical project management, stakeholder management, professional services, solution engineering or technical consulting, and 4 years of experience in technical leadership.
  • 3 years of experience in people management.
  • 2 years of experience designing broadcast systems, specifically transmission chains geo-redundant across third-party colos.
  • 1 year of experience in technical troubleshooting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience managing complex cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 5 years of experience in advanced areas of networking.
  • 5 years of experience at a streaming service and in broadcast.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

About the job

The OTT Broadcast team is responsible for all of the live and VOD content ingestion that powers Over-the Top (OTT) products, including system design, video/network engineering, feed infrastructure, Ingestion video quality, software, tooling, and operations.

As the Head of Broadcast Engineering, YouTube OTT, you will be responsible for designing and building scalable broadcast content ingestion infrastructure that is highly reliable, scalable, and with high video quality and low latency to power our growing products globally. You will be responsible for growing and developing an internal team of operations and engineering specialists while optimizing external vendor teams. You will partner with other internal infrastructure and operational teams across Google to design and build a resilient state of the art infrastructure powering YouTube.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $221,000-$314,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Architect and design exceptional content ingestion systems with high quality and reliability.
  • Partner closely with Broadcasters, third-party Aggregators, and content partner companies to deliver live content to YouTube OTT.
  • Develop and use metrics to measure quality and reliability of the ingestion platform.
  • Support strategic initiatives to ensure we continuously scale our infrastructure to be cost effective.
  • Own the tooling strategy for the ingestion pipeline, considering both internal and external products to ensure uptime.
