Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in Field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) design or similar electrical engineering design disciplines.
  • Experience in analog, digital, or mixed-signal design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing or leading a design team in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in leading development projects, including system deployments.
  • Experience in multiple electrical engineering design disciplines (e.g., FPGA, AMS, or RF at the board and chip level), and specification discovery to system deployment.
  • Understanding of industry design practices across relevant disciplines (e.g., AMS, RF, FPGA, etc.).

About the job

The Quantum team's mission is to make quantum computing tools available to the world to enable humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. The Quantum electronics team is carrying out a broad range of Research and Development (R&D) aimed at implementing the best quantum computers in the world, with a long-term goal of realizing a fault-tolerant quantum computer.

In this role, you will be a senior member of the quantum electronics team, providing leadership and mentorship as we implement sophisticated electronics for control and readout of our current and future quantum computers.

You will lead a team of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) designers and RF/AMS (Radio Frequency/Analog Mixed Signal) hardware engineers, collaborating with adjacent teams in the electronic, software, and quantum engineering areas to implement complex systems for use in the readout and control of our scaled quantum processors and deploy these systems to our quantum computers. You will mentor junior engineers, instilling industrial design practices and providing performance feedback. You will develop a deep understanding of the electronic control and measurement needs of quantum computers and contribute to project roadmapping and scoping, developing new capabilities and anticipating future needs by collaborating with other quantum engineers and scientists. You will collaborate with adjacent teams and senior members of the quantum electronics team to contribute to long term strategy.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design of control and measurement systems for next generation quantum computers, from architecture through implementation and deployment.
  • Manage a diverse team of design and test engineers, providing mentorship to engineers, including in industry design practices.
  • Drive projects of significant complexity to completion, leveraging team of engineers.
  • Participate in project roadmapping and resource planning.
  • Support deployment and operations of electronics to Google’s fleet of quantum computers.
