  • 15 years of experience in software engineering leadership roles.
  • Experience with generative AI (LLMs, diffusion models, etc.), development workflows, and use cases.
  • Experience building developer-facing products or platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience driving engineering excellence through rigorous testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle.
  • A deep understanding of developer needs, with the ability to translate them into exceptional software tools and experiences.

About the job

Google’s ML, Systems and Cloud AI (MSCA) organization builds the technical foundation behind Google’s products as well as for Google Cloud’s compute and AI/ML offerings. We manage the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. Core ML is the central machine learning platform team that provides ML software tools, services, solutions and infrastructure to all the Google product areas including Search, Ads, Youtube, Cloud, Maps, etc. Core ML is focused on Driving ML Excellence for Google and the World. Our aim is to make it easier to perform ML experimentation, development and productionization, and we work closely with Google Research and DeepMind to bring new ML models and innovation across the stack to market. This enables us to better meet the challenge of the rapidly evolving hardware and software space around ML.

Within the Cloud AI organization, we focus on building highly differentiated, highly scalable, and easy-to-use machine learning products and services that enable our customers to transform their business with AI. Products such as Vertex, AutoML, TPU, and TensorFlow Enterprise comprise a portfolio that spans the needs of Data Scientists, Developers, and overall Infrastructure. We not only provide customers with state-of-the-art ML models but also full ML model building/serving toolsets (i.e. MLOps) and management workflows to enable customers to turn ideas into high-quality production AI solutions across verticals.

This role will lead the design, development, and operation of our Vertex Generative AI Serving platform. This platform will be instrumental in delivering cutting-edge AI experiences across Google Cloud, impacting users globally.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $323,000-$465,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Own and set the strategic roadmap, resource allocation, execution and delivery through critical technology choices, defining operational excellence standards, and leading strategic partnerships within Google to drive platform adoption and evolution.
  • Lead a growing engineering organization across multiple sites, be responsible for determining the performance, reliability, and efficiency of our Generative AI models in production, influencing user satisfaction and adoption of AI-powered features. 
  • Lead, collaborate and influence across the broader Vertex platform teams, Google research and CoreML teams to build up the LM serving platform. 
  • Evolve the strategic direction for the organization as the set of challenges and opportunities for Google rapidly change and provide executive leadership to define the product vision, roadmap, and execution strategy. You will influence key stakeholders across the company, advocating for resources and driving adoption of the platform.
