Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Systems

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience in system software development (e.g., firmware, BIOS, BSP, Linux kernel, BMC, device drivers, and system libraries).
  • Experience in Unix/Linux environments and embedded Linux.
  • Experience coding in C/C++.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in Linux kernel internals such as CPU scheduling, memory management, block layer and file system.
  • Experience in the Baseboard Management Controllers (BMC) (i.e., AMI BMC or OpenBMC) development, machine management software development or Linux kernel development.

Our mission is to build server management solutions including root-of-trust, server network initialization, server configuration and management. We also maintain the systems deployed in the data centers with state of the art reliability monitoring services, firmware and driver upgrades and thermal control.

Platforms Engineering research, design and develop the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's infrastructure and services. In this role, you will work on solutions to deliver the next generation compute, storage, machine learning, and networking products for the Google worldwide data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Write detailed specifications and design documents for software architecture and systems we build.
  • Develop and integrate server management software.
  • Maintain and provide support for systems in the fleet.
  • Develop, maintain, and integrate software test infrastructure, unit tests, and integration tests.
  • Lead our vendors to achieve a high-level of code quality.
