Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, other relevant engineering field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience with security principles, authentication protocols, and threat modeling

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience designing secure cloud services including threat modeling and protocol design
  • Expertise in addressing unique security challenges in hybrid, multi-cloud environments
  • Familiarity with security and compliance issues arising in the newly emerging space of GenAI based tools and applications
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across different disciplines and organizations
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

About the job

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a Security and Compliance leader across Google Cloud Platform's (GCP) Data Analytics product portfolio. This role spans across multiple product teams and you will help define/drive long-term security and compliance priorities for the area. You will employ a hybrid approach of direct oversight of security related aspects of product features and technical guidance including, mentorship, high-level consulting, and risk/growth management. You will act as an escalation point for security and compliance related technical decisions across the team when necessary and function as a trusted partner for other Directors and C-level leaders in defining both short-term tactical approaches and longer term strategy.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Utilize expertise in security architecture of cloud services including experience with threat modeling. Provide guidance to teams on authoring and maintaining the threat model of their components/services and come up with recommendations on addressing potential vulnerabilities.
  • Be knowledgeable of cross-cloud environments and the new set of challenges they bring (i.e., identity federation and cross-domain authentication). Provide team wide guidance on how to navigate these issues.
  • Navigate heterogeneity (i.e., OSS vs. proprietary software stacks and multi-single-tenant vs. multi-tenant systems).
  • Build relationships and trust both inside Data Analytics and outside with the broader Google Cloud Platform (GCP) team, through a combination of humility, empathy, and technical expertise. Guide and enable others.
  • Articulate journey with respect to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
