Tech Lead, Product Security Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
  • 10 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security and security protocols.
  • 10 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
  • 10 years of experience leading teams in a technical capacity or leading technical risk analysis in an enterprise environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with open source security.
  • Experience with low-level security.
  • Understanding of the cloud technologies and risk landscapes, including artificial intelligence, privacy, and security.

About the job

There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.

You use your industry experience to own and drive the resolution of complex security incidents, policy questions and technical security issues.

Product Security Engineering (PSE) is responsible for ensuring that every Google Cloud product ships as secure as it can be. We do so by increasing the assurance levels of security in the infrastructure underlying all our products, increasing the capabilities of each product team to develop more secure products by design and by default, from patterns, tools and frameworks to increasing the skill level of embedded security leads. PSE owns and drives the product security strategy for Google Cloud. We work with almost every aspect of Google’s infrastructure and on solving truly planet scale infrastructure security problems that have societal level impacts.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $237,000-$337,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Act as one of the executive technical leaders for product security across Google Cloud Platform (GCP)/Technical Infrastructure (TI).
  • Own and drive product and infrastructure security initiatives in Cloud and collaborate closely with the broader Google Security community.
  • Drive large, technically complex, cross-functional, multi-quarter, and multi-year security efforts that engineer-away common risks and vulnerability classes.
  • Work closely with tech leads and executive leadership to review technical designs and architectural improvements, while also considering engineering tradeoffs between security, reliability and performance, at Google scale.
  • Leverage deep technical industry expertise to determine innovative security infrastructure improvements at Google scale.
