Orange 67-72s?

How many of you are there out there? My 72 LWB fleetside is factory blaze orange on the bottom and above the door handle/hood area and white on the side and roof. I like the orange, but am not too sure about the white. What's everyone done with orange to make their trucks stand out? Stock or custom, orange looks good and I'd like to get some inspiration on how I can paint mine. Thanks.

It will be getting the interior repainted in the same color, along with black door panels, dash pad and a houdstooth bench seat (if there is orange and black, if not, what are other houdstooth options?) Thanks!

The orange trucks I have seen with black interiors had black/white houndstooth. It looks very good, IMO. I personally like the 2 tone orange/white on longboxes. There was a thread or 2 on here awhile back (use search) that had orange truck pics on it..maybe these will help you make your decision.

Your truck looks great 70chevc10! I just did a search and found the orange paint thread. I think I am going to do my old truck orange and white after all, but I'm going to have to find something to replace the trim (lower for sure). Some people may like the wood trim, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Plus I'm midding most of it and its not cheap to replace. Maybe I'll add a chrome pinstripe between the colors for a bit of separation.

Wow. Seeing a couple stock orange and whites with good paint on them has me pretty well convinced that mine will stay that color. A brighter orange looks good as a single color with everything shaved, but with the stock darker orange, I think it needs the white to break up the colors a bit. The only problem I'm having is the trim dividing the colors. I have none right now. Well, I shouldn't say that, It has a lot of trim, its just all bent up and wrecked. I'm thinking of using a chrome pinstripe tape to divide the colors, maybe 3/8" wide with a smaller 1/8" stripe above it on the top orange and below it on the bottom orange. How does that sound? Add the chrome drip rail in there and a billet grille and I think I could have a pretty sharp looking truck.

New Brainstorm!!! Solid Firebolt Orange, but with some sort of black or white musclecar stripe. Been done before? I'm thinking either Chevelle SS stripes on the hood, or a first gen camaro band-aid on the front. Here's an example done in paint (I apologize in advance for butchering two nice trucks with my crappy paintwork.

Any comments? I figure when on the truck either would look pretty sweet. Different if nothing else. Any other muscle car paint jobs that might fit? I've been thinking Buick GSX or Yenko or something, but I'm not too sure.

It will be the stock orange color, just with a little different scheme to go along with it. The orange and white looks good, but I can't justify the cost of the trim, and mine is far too battered to use. That's why I'm looking into classic musclecar paint jobs (plus I don't know if I've ever seen a paint job like that on a truck of this style before.

Hey bro, I have a 1972 Cheyanne Super, and I am planning to strip all the trim and paint the body orange and repaint the cab white. Just a idea I thought I would throw out, good luck.

Solid orange looks good as well. You could always look for good used trim on here. I am sure with all the board members here you could get a decent set. If not, try some ss stripes maybe. I have seen trucks with them on and they looked OK.

I think for now what I'll do is just shave everything and paint it straight orange. That way it's a clean slate to start with. I've never been a huge fan of the original trim, so I might as well get rid of it.

True...if the trim doesn't suit your taste, dump it. GM made 2 oranges that year I believe, Hugger and a lighter shade, that you could choose. Or if you want to stray from original, there is Hemi Orange and Vitamin C from Dodge, and Calypso Coral (had a 70 mach 1 that color..real nice) from Ford. Any color chip books will have a ton too, I was just listing a few muscle era colors I could think of. Good luck and please post some pics ASAP..I like orange vehicles.

70chevC10 where did you find that color? Was it a GM color or out of a chip book?

When I'm done I'll definitely post pics. All trim shaved, solid orange, Chrome drip rail, door handles, gas cap and bumpers for sure. Should look alright. Still trying to pick between a stock replacement grille and a billet one. Also still trying to decide on rims, but leaning towards Torq Thrust II's or Cragar SS, In either stock 15" or 17".

Dave,

I can't remember what size of tire they are. Those pics were from an Ebay ad a couple of months ago. If I had to guess I would say they are a 31" tire...it fills up the wheel well pretty good but not as much as trying to stuff 33" 's.

Sorry I can't say for sure...

Brian
