Medium Red Paint On 72 Trucks

Anyone out there with a nice medium red paint job that would share pics ? My body shop wants me to pick my color and its currently faded to orange and rust but was originally medium red. I think Id like to go back to medium red but not sure exactly what it looks like. Mine is a 72 short fleetside c10 plain jane. It will be painted inside and out and will have a nice set of buddy buckets and the wheels will be 8" ralleys with stock center caps. I would consider other reds as well so post them too if you like and tell me what color red you have.
Thanks John
PS :Its not yet ready for paint but he wants to mix a batch and paint 1 fender and make sure its what I want.

Re: Medium Red Paint On 72 Trucks

I think in 1967-1972, there was only one "true red". It was called light red, medium red, and red in different years on the SPIDS. My truck is like yours, 38 years of sun has turned it to more of an orange.

The first pic is my truck and the other pics are ones that I have taken off this site. I am not sure they are medium red but I nthink they are.

I hope you go with an original color, I think these trucks look best in any original color.

Re: Medium Red Paint On 72 Trucks

Thanks guys ,I knew you would help me out . If my truck looks half as good as those above I'll be happy. I think Im staying with as close to original medium red as we can get as those trucks above are just perfect.
Thanks Again
John

I have a 71 that is an original medium red and white truck. It is now a shade or two darker than original but the red and white looks very nice...

For a 67 chevy 544 is a two tone code for 514 red and 526 ivory. So your code for the red on your truck is 514. And the code for the ivory is 526.
70704 is the correct part number for ditzler paint for your 514 red.

FLASHED, here is a paint chip chart for your 72 chevy. Looks like 514 red, is the ticket for you to. Notice the 513 flame red is a GMC color only and the other two reds are orange.

My truck was a medium red but it had faded out and looked more orange than red. I repainted it a Corvette Torch Red

That is a gorgeous paint job! The red is so deep and rich.

Is this the 514 Red?

Re: Medium Red Paint On 72 Trucks

Heres my paint code Gonnuts. I got a little nervous when I saw the Chrysler name on it but my painter said its very normal for paint colors to be reused. Being 40 years old, that makes sense.

Way too much fuss about original paint while we are powdercoating the frame and putting a computer controlled tire roasting engine under the hood..

Everybody has their own opinion, my frame will be painted, and although my engine is not the original 283 it is a carbed SB. Factory colour is big for me thats why I(in my opinion)paid a fair bit extra to get a red 67 big back window truck. But that's what I like & I would not suggest that someone else shouldn't paint their truck whatever colour they want, or put in a TPI engine. Just my opinion.

Re: Medium Red Paint On 72 Trucks

Thanks for all the pics of those beautys ,I hope to visit the body shop again soon to see the progress on mine .Its going to be a long process as they are working on mine between insurance work and when times are slow but Im going to be very patient as I want my truck to look like some of the above trucks. It will probably be close to Christmas before it comes home.

Re: Medium Red Paint On 72 Trucks

I think each truck owner has the right to paint his truck any color he wants. Since there are a million or so colors out there and since I am not "RESTORING" a truck I refuse to choose from a dozen or so colors that some dork in Detroit thought were cool in 1970. I was not ragging on upgrades and mods or tire roasting engines as the only thing stock on my truck may be the ash tray. John you need to get that convertible ready for your wife or you may need a camper for the truck. Good luck with the body and paint work and keep us posted on the progress......Roger
