Cape Blue Paint?

I was looking online for 1960 GMC pictures and came across this truck.

I looked at the rest of his pictures, and found a couple of pictures of his truck before the restoration. They look like my truck's color. I e-mailed him and he replied that his truck was Cape Blue and Olympic White originally. He has pictures of the original paperwork showing that.

Here is a couple of mine for reference.

The new paint looks too green to me, but I am not sure. Does anyone have have any more pictures of original and or new Cape Blue paint?

Re: Cape Blue Paint?

Thanks Aerotruk, I should have mentioned that I looked through those paint chips, as well as the ones on http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorli...truck-pg01.jpg also.

I printed them out on a good quality color printer, and they didn't really match. I even printed out the 1959 colors and tried them too, thinking that since my truck is #46 off the assembly line, that they might have used up some leftover paint from '59.

The ID plate(s?) are missing on my truck, so I can't look there to verify the color.

Might I suggest a paint chip sheet off Ebay?

I hadn't really thought about that! I'll have to look for one of those. Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: Cape Blue Paint?

FYI – the missing ID plates on your 1960 GMC wouldn’t have helped identify the paint, that information wasn’t included on the kick panel data plate until several years later. The only place color was specified on my 1960 GMC was on the original dealer invoice - #11 Lunar Yellow. It’s also interesting (at least to me) the Ditzler paint chip (shown above) for Lunar Yellow almost matches the faded color of my truck when purchased. In hidden areas of the bodywork that never saw sunlight, the original color was much darker. So having the paint book in hand is probably the only way to know for sure what the original color actually looked like.

Re: Cape Blue Paint?

Thanks MarkB01!

My former stepdaughters truck was a '65 Chevy, and it had the color on the kick panel plate, so I assumed... (yeah I know) that my truck would have had it there too.

The areas that didn't see daylight that I have found, the color didn't really match the print outs either.

I just ordered one paint chip page from Sherwin-Williams, and have a question in to another seller about a Ditzler one.

I'd still like to see some pictures of trucks with the Cape Blue paint if any are out there.

Re: Cape Blue Paint?

I just got the Ditzler one too. Now I can compare them both to the truck!

Re: Cape Blue Paint?

Thanks again for the suggestion Aerotruk.

I just received the Ditzler sheet in the mail, and it is much nicer than the printouts I was trying to use. I will compare it to the truck tonight.

Re: Cape Blue Paint?

I like literature on these trucks. I'll share anything I come across so it might help others. Perhaps you'll post your sheets for others to see.

I need to use my camera at home though. A cell phone picture just wont cut it. LOL

Here are closeups of the colors. Some are shown twice. I was just trying to get the whole layout on there.
