Need Advice on 72 Chevy Truck color

I recently inherited my grandfathers 72 Chevy farm truck. We are in the process of rebuilding it with our second body shop. I have spoken with some painters and they say the 72 colors are no good. I have searched the internet and feel fearful that I will make a mistake. The original color was olive green. I do not want anything bright or flashy. I would like something classic and classy. Any advice?

google giner ale metallic. its a modern olive color....just my 2 cents.

Pretty cool. Yes, it is close to the olive green. I will definitely keep it in mind.
Should I try to go original? We were leaning a little toward a dark gray or copper/brick.

It's up to you . I have over the years painted a lot of older vehicles modern day bc/cc that look real close to the original . It just takes the time to match them up . Also some of the older paint formulas can be crossed over to bc/cc .

I would say no to gray, copper would be awesome, WA418P... original olive is also nice. Post some photo's...Good luck.

notsolo, I love WA418P. It does not look orange, red or brown. Can you please look up WA381E (another painter gave me this code) and tell me which one you like better?

loving the fathom green, it is safe and classy. husband is loving the atomic orange because it is "hot". Of course the pics we are looking at are of corvettes...not sure you can make a 72 farm truck look sexy. How do I post pics anyways?

I think thats a Mitsubishi color? About maybe early 2000s Talon if Im not mistaken.

Long bed. three on the tree, v8 is all I know. I can't find that color online.

the original medium olive with a little metallic flake in it would be sweet.

These trucks look good in any color, contrast white or silver can't go wrong... the blazer may not be Phathom Green still very nice... the pick up Scotts72heavyhalf ..lite olive metallic. 1 of my favorites...

If you like green I am kinda partial to the Jeep JK Rescue Green they have, it is a nice looking color



Go Mango looks good too. It is a copper orange kinda color

Not trying to slow you down or take away any excitment about new paint for your truck, .. but ... what I learned from my Sub is that I got the cart in front of the horse, and got exited about new paint before I had all the basic baselines of the mechanicls done and after the new paint they were still there and needed to be addressed. ... 72 Sub with about 40 yr old brakelines, 40 yr old window weather stripping,vacuum lines, hoses,plugwires etc. ... after the new paint I was worried about touching it and it was odd to work around that type of stuff.
some of that stuff was done before new paint but not enough of it..... in fact, I got so ahead of myself I did not even get the heater fixed right and I live in south dakota winters

just trying to be helpful, ..maybe all those basics are done on yours and my point is nil... welcome to the best truck site bar none, kent

p.s .... medium olive is good.

I agree, wait on the paint until all the mechanical work is done. I'm sure it will need to be power washed and you really don't want to throw chunks of dirt and grease all over fresh paint do you?

Unfortunatley "paint shop prison" is very common in auto restoration. Consider yourself lucky if you got it out and to another shop withought the legal system. If you run into any more trouble take it to Southeastern Auto Works in Cartersville. My recomendation for color is to look at pictures of these trucks until you find one you like and then ask the owner what color it is. These trucks also look good 2 tone. I am becoming a fan of the root beer color of late. With that said....I agree you need tohave it mechanically sound before you paint it.

Hey Guys! I finally got logged back in and found my thread/post. This is my first forum so I am a newbie. I appreciate all of the advice! My family has looked at every color of olive green, shades of green and phathom green. We just haven't seen anything we love except the color on the Caddy. I need your expert paint advice on this color code. This is a big truck and if I screw this one up it will haunt me for the next 40yrs! We have some great guys working on it now in South Ga. and they are ready for the paint decision :-) Imagine this Caddy color with a two tone cream cab,trim,and the "CHEVROLET" on the tail gate. I know you all are laughing because I don't know the lingo but if I did I probably would not need your advice!!! Thanks in advance!
