Carmine Red Vinyl Paint

Ive done some extensive searches on this color. Has anyone has found a vinyl paint that matches the carmine red. SEM no longer carries this color. And USA1 has a vinyl paint, that's called Carmine Red. Has anyone tried this & does it match the original color?

Any other suggestions would be helpful. I have acquired a set of seatbelts that the plastic needs freshened up.

I don't believe his was Carmine Red. But either way, it wasn't a perfect match, that's why he painted/dyed everything.

Call SEM directly. I did and got a can to try. There are two different shades though, dark and medium if I remember correctly.

You are correct, I used Napa red. I do know that the local paint store will mix colors for you. You can spray it, or have it put in aerosol cans. The spray cans are expensive but you dont have to worry about waste.

I saw where USA1 has that color, maybe. Or if you call them they can do custom paint, and get as close as possible. I have small pieces from the seatbelt sleeves, so if they want, I can always send that to them to help match the color. So I'm going to try that route and see what happens.

I did find a few posts from other old forums, where a few people used the Portola Red and then dusted with Fire Thorn. It was pretty much a perfect match. One guy even showed a pic of a part the was the Carmine Red and then he had painted a Tan part with these 2 colors, the parts looked identical. I wished I would have saved the pic and reposted it here. So there's always that option too.

I used that on mine too, along with the carmine. The factory parts did not match perfect, I wanted the same look. I don't remember what colors got used on what panel, but I do remember for sure that I did the dash pad in portola and the door panels in the carmine (or firethorn or whatever it was called). It looks proper.

Re: Carmine Red Vinyl Paint

Finally got the paint, SEM FireThorn & Portola Red. I think it matched up PRETTY close with the Carmine.

The plastic sleeves for the buckles are still Carmine, everything else was hit with a couple of coats of Fire Thorn Red and then followed with of couple of light coats of Portola Red. Finally a very light shot of satin clear just to give it a hint of shine.

The 2nd photo is Before, it is right after just giving them a good cleaning. They had quite a bit of fading, especially the retractors.
