Self-Service: Release Messages from Quarantine

Spam filtering in Office 365 is configured to quarantine e-mail considered to be "high confidence spam" - i.e. e-mail that receives a score of 9 out 9 in Exchange Online Protection. Users can view and release quarantined e-mail using the the self-service option available in Office 365 and documented below.

Access Office 365 Quarantine and Release Quarantined Messages

  1. Log in to https://security.office.com/quarantine using your eID in the format of "ename@colostate.edu" along with your eID password.
  2. Find and select the message you want to release from quarantine.
  3. Click on the envelope icon to release the message.
  4. Click "Yes" on the warning message asking you to confirm that you want to release the message.
  5. Do not close the window until you receive confirmation.
  6. The previously-quarantined message should arrive in your Inbox.

Manage Safe and Blocked Senders

Optionally, users may want to add a sender or sender domain to their Safe Senders list in Office 365 to ensure e-mails from the sender are not quarantined. Steps to add Safe Senders are provided below.

  1. Log in to the O365 Portal at https://portal.office.com. Enter your username as "ename@colostate.edu" when logging in.
  2. Access the "Outlook" section of the portal by clicking the "waffle" icon in the upper left corner and clicking the "Outlook" tile.
  3. Click the "Gear" icon in the upper-right and then click the "View all Outlook settings" link (towards the bottom).
  4. On the left, click "Mail" > "Junk email".
  5. Use the resulting form to set Blocked senders and domains or to mark Safe senders and domains.

Note: Safe Sender lists are limited to 1000 entries and must be specified as full e-mail addresses because adding Safe Sending domains is not supported. Blocked Sender lists are limited to 500 entries, which can be full email addresses and/or email domains.
