In 1990 CalTrans "loaned" Amtrak CalTrain F40 919 for service on the San Joaquin Corridor. Engine crews didn't like the 919 because the CalTrain F40PH-2s use blended braking rather than dynamic braking. Railfans liked the 919 because it still had a working Mars light and was a nice break from the standard Amtrak F40s. Seen in Bakersfield on a balmy July evening, the 919 has just brought it's train to a stop and is waiting for passengers to detrain so the crew can wye the consist.
