Two homes were damaged after a two-alarm fire in Brockton.
Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Galligan says there were no injuries. Crews responded to Tina Drive around 4:40 Friday afternoon.
“As soon as we left the station, we weren’t far, we could see the column of smoke up in the sky a few miles away. It came in as an outside fire. When Engine 3 arrived, it was reported the fire got into two buildings,” said Galligan. “The crews arrived, quickly entered both buildings, we stretched lines into both buildings simultaneously.
We were able to keep the fire from spreading from where the fire was when we arrived. The ladder companies did a quick search, made sure everyone was out of the building, and opened both roofs at the same time.”
Neighbors from across the street alerted the occupants of the fire.
Three adults were displaced from one home, two adults and a child were displaced from the other home. The Red Cross was called to help the residents.
“Crews obviously had to do a lot more work than they normally have to, they didn’t have as much backup as they typically have,” said Galligan. “We had one engine, one ladder on each building, we had to supplement them with additional help as they arrived, but they had to come from a distance.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
