eBay Find: This 1957 Plymouth Suburban Wagon Has Been Customized But Not Hacked

As we have said many tines, custom cars are an interesting thing because when someone has a car built or builds a wacky car to their personal taste, it does not always translate into cool for everyone else. This 1957 Plymouth Suburban is a fine example of that but I’m not here to carve it up. Just the opposite, actually. I think it is pretty awesome and while there are things I would ditch within the first hour of ownership (the fur inside) there is lots of stuff that is pretty awesome. The stance and roof chop really make this car and those are the two things I really like about it.

There’s a 318ci Poly engine under the hood and while that is something I’d keep, there would be some parts hunting and modifications made. Hell, have you ever seen one of those on a some boost? It would to be a powerhouse but it giving it 300-400hp at the tire would change the whole program. Yeah, I would change the wheels to something a little more modern but the fact is that the wheels aren’t terrible. Just not my taste.

The paint is something that I am in love with. If this car were presented in flat black or primer, it would not have near the personality or feel that this one does. Pretty amazing what a little color can do, right? Then panel style work is awesome as is the pin striping and the roof is really killer. Because the car is chopped so heavily the roof is actually part of the visual appeal of the car and the painter used that to his or her advantage. Lastly there’s the extensive pin striping on the car. To me, pin striping is a love it or hate it thing and worst of all, I cannot really define what makes me do one or the other. When it is good it is great and when it is bad? BLECK.

More horsepower, new wheels/tires, and fur delete and I would happily cruise this car on a daily basis!

Satin black, satin black, satin black!

Dress up the engine to match and you would have the Devil’s flower car!

    Gimme!

If this thing were black and rust, I’d probably have a reaction like, “Meh, another rat rod.” But seeing it finished with good paint? This thing rocks! Now… can I actually squeeze behind the wheel with that much chop?

I’d build up the Poly 318, and loose the fur in the interior, other than that, I’d leave it as is,
