Roadside Find: A Killer 1953 Dodge Dually Truck!

Roadside Find: A Killer 1953 Dodge Dually Truck!

Yesterday, as Chad was recovering from his exhaustive video work at the rain delayed 2011 March Meet, we loaded up the kiddos and our wife, setting off for a Sunday cruise in our daily driver pickup. The temps were frigid and the sky was blue. We went to some local historical sites and were headed for home when Tom, our intrepid four year old companion yelled out, “Dad, COOL old truck!” Often this is a 1996 Ford or something, because after all, he is four. This time it was BangShifty pay dirt! The truck is (we think!) a 1953 Dodge, which we have never seen before. We think it was probably a flatbed and this stepside bed has been modified to fit.

The fenders look way wider than anything that would have been churned out by the factory, in our opinion anyway. The actual “box” itself looks to be period correcto, so who knows. This bad boy was parked out in from of an antique sale being held in the historic town of Duxbury, Massachusetts, so there was no one around to answer questions.

This truck is totally awesome and unique. We can count on one hand the number of Dodge trucks from this era we have seen, let alone those with a dually rear and heavy duty factory parts. We couldn’t see the motor or anything, so if we were guessing at it, we think there’s a straight sixer under there!

Check out the photos and tell us what you know (or you think you know!)
