Patina Pickup: 1964 Chevrolet C10

One of the longest-running U.S. pickup truck platforms was the C/K Series for Chevrolet and GMC, lasting from 1960 to 2002. The first generation was built until 1966, including this C-10 2WD short-bed which has been turned into a restomod. Not only does it have a modern engine and vintage air conditioning, but it has also been converted as a low rider, sitting really close to the ground. More for show than work, this pickup is in Riverside, California, and can be found here on eBay where $23,300 has yet to crack the seller’s reserve.

The C/K platform saw a lot of use, not just with pickups. It also applied to chassis cabs and medium-duty trucks as well as full-size SUVs. The “C” stood for two-wheel-drive, whereas “K” meant that four-wheel-drive was in play. The trucks looked pretty much the same for 1960-63, but in 1964 GM redesigned the A-pillars and front windshield, getting rid of the “dogleg” posts which often resulted in some bruised knees for tall people. That required changes to the dashboard and doors.

This Chevy could have had an inline-6 or 283 V8 when it was built, but a 350 cubic inch crate motor resides under the hood now. Along with a TH-350 automatic transmission, the truck has only seen 2,000 miles since the transformation took place. We assume that’s when the suspension was modified to create the “low rider” look, complete with CPP tubular front A-arms and rear trailing arms. Front disk brakes were also added, and the truck sports a new set of tires.

The body is nice, clean, and said to be rust-free. The dark green paint may be the original color, but it seems to have a matte finish now. The interior is mostly original, including the steering wheel which has a worn look to it. Besides air conditioning, an airbag system has been installed in this Chevy. We’re told it’s a great runner and a ton of paperwork documenting the work done will be provided. We assume the suspension is fixed, so I don’t see this truck’s bed being filled to its rated capacity.

    The suspension isn’t “fixed” because the air bag system is the suspension. You can put it at any level you want and probably carry anything within reason in the bed. The last airbag system car I rode in was stable and a smooth ride, probably a big improvement over the stock on this truck. Looks like a quality build to me.

        I have a 66 Chevy truck here in San Diego just a few miles from this truck and there is absolutely no rust.

    REALLY! You think this truck is for hauling a 1/2 ton of dirt and rock? That’s like looking at a race car and saying, I am planning on driving it back and forth to work.. This is a great truck if you want it for what it was bulit to do.
