While a 1969 GTO convertible may not be everyone’s dream car, this one checks off a lot of boxes for me. It’s a survivor with mostly original paint, has had only two owners with tons of records and is a popular enough car that you aren’t going to lose a ton of money if you ever decide to sell. The sale listing is here on eBay where bidding is up to almost $20,000. This one of 7,220 1969 GTO convertibles can be picked up in Florence, South Carolina.
I love the “coke bottle” shape of this generation of GM sporty cars, and I like the Enduro-nosed Pontiacs the best of all. Combine that with the magic letters “GTO” and I’m sold. The Midnight Green Metallic paint does a perfect job of highlighting the subtle curves and lines of the styling.
The convertible top appears to fit nicely as well. It’s new. The seller includes a list of options the car was ordered with:

While the body is not perfect on this car, it’s definitely a 5-footer. The only spots are where some previous repairs are starting to show–and thanks to the first owner’s meticulous record-keeping, we know that in early May, 1972, someone crudely jacked up the front of the car to steal the front wheels and damaged both rocker panels. The rocker panels were fixed on August 17, 1972. See what I mean about meticulous record-keeping?
The carpet was replaced due to fading, but apart from that the interior is completely original.
The current seller has completed the following maintenance work after buying it from his neighbor (the original owner) in 2015:
- Replaced battery and all appropriate plugs, date-coded wires, rotor cap, and points
- Replaced the master cylinder, power booster and rubber brake hoses
- Replaced water pump, drive belts, and appropriate radiator hoses and clamps
- Exhaust was bad so we installed a Flowmaster exhaust.
- Found and refinished 4 properly date stamped Rally II wheels. They are on car now. I also have the original spare with the original tire plus the two original wheels that were on the car when I picked it up. Remember, the front two were stolen early in its life
- 4 brand new Redline tires in the proper size
- Rebuilt carburetor
- Replaced convertible top and motor. It works as it should
- Transmission and rear differential were serviced with new seals and fluid
- Replaced carpet
- Dropped fuel tanked and cleaned it. Replace tank straps, fuel sending unit, fuel pump, and filter
The timeline of this car is so well-documented it makes me drool. I spend a lot of time trying to discover things about the classic cars I own — this one has it all documented already. I am a sucker for these, and a big fan of originality and documentation. This Goat has that in spades. Almost bought a 68 hardtop last year. Good luck with the sale(if it happens)😩.

Looks like a pretty nice car. Refreshing to see an owner that took great care and kept great records of their car for over 45 years. Also somewhat surprising that an 22 year old guy got four years and 30k out of a set of tires on a GTO way back then. Kudos to the seller for the good pics and description.
Looks just like a Hot Wheels car I once had. Even down to the redline tires.
I like 68-69s in hardtops, but the convertible with the top down has some of the best lines of any car made and tops the 66-67 convertibles IMHO.

Paint at bottom where damage appears to possibly an issue. things not lining up well . Close inspection required. I sold my 69 ragtop 6 years ago..bought an orange 09 Viper convertible with a big wing and have never looked back…done with the older cars with a few exceptions possible.
From this era, which was quicker and better handling – the GTO or the Firebird, when both had the 400 CI engine? I’ve always imagined that it was the Firebird, given the slightly (I am guessing) lower weight/smaller footprint. Anyone know?
Beautiful. Majority of these beat to death as they were $1,200 used cars when I was a high school senior in 1973. I had two GTOs, both green, a Limelight Green 69 four speed with hideaways and a 70 hardtop in Palisade Green. Miss them both. My friend in Miami has a 69 conv in Matador Red. Engine is at machine shop for rebuild. Car is otherwise done with cold working ac.

Well this one here I’d take hands down no more than $25k though & ONLY if it had the FOUR speed. Sorry guys, just had too many ‘performance’ T400’s w/ either B&M or Fairbanks goodies. Blew them up. Literally. One time, along with the rear end, both at once (’75 Formula). But I’d take this over that ’70 yellow or orange Judge the other day & pocket what, $90k & have a car I can take out any & every day & not worry how I drive it or even how I park the damn thing. And can put the top down, no A/C needed!
Great looking car and a convertible to boot!!! The only thing that could possibly be better would be the 4 speed!!! I still wouldn’t mind having it in my driveway!!!
Beautiful color scheme on a beautiful car. Obviously well cared for all it’s life too. However I saw it on eBay and the pictures there make it clear it isn’t original paint, looks like a cheap 80’s lacquer shoot. If the car is rust free it’s a great deal even after the cost of a quality repaint.
Any mention of the engine size? And if you have ever put the top down on a sunny day, you would know it is NO replacement for working AC.
I have two convertibles and I usually run the A/C with the top down!! It’s the only way to fly!!!
