Use Vintage Views: 1952 Chevrolet C3100

There are certainly quite a few different purposes for this stunning 1952 Chevrolet C3100 with 34,000 miles. The listing for the truck is in Falls River, Rhode Island, but the truck is a California truck with plates that indicate it as such. For $20,000 you can take this green machine home. Thank you to Michael for submitting this truck. To view the listing, head over to Craigslist.

There is not much info listed regarding the engine. It does have a manual transmission and it does run and drive. A coffee company, winery, or microbrewery looking for a vintage hauler to pick up supplies and attract eyes, should consider this truck. Its flat green, earth tone paint, has a hipster look that is all the rage right now.

The interior looks to be original. The soft browns and simple dash looks back to a different time. A rural real estate agent who might do country rustic interior design would certainly benefit from having a truck like this. It is a driving billboard that summarizes all the unique traits of the business. Apply a logo, a phone number and you’re all set!

It is not exactly a show truck. The seller does say it was a barn find that they primarily just up kept. Having an original look really facilitates a lot of possibilities for this truck. Farmers markets are another potential purpose. Having a vintage vehicle to bring your produce, crafts, and other needed items is a great way to get noticed.

I actually think this is a 3200(lose the “c”). Looks like a 1/2 ton long bed with 3 stake pockets. 3600 was 3/4 ton with heavier tires ,wheels and springs and same bed as this one.
    Geomechs….help.

    I think you’re right, Bob, that it’s a half-ton.

I’d love to see the mileage documented, as I’m guessing there’s another 100K’s worth of miles that the truck has traveled.

I’m inclined to say it’s a 3600. It’s a 3/4 ton with an 8 ft. bed. Unless someone threw a monkey wrench into the model identification for ’52, the 3100 is a 1/2 ton, and always will be (unless you see a Canadian one which would be a 1300), the 3/4 ton is a 3600, and the tonner is a 3800. I’m not sure where the ‘C’ designation comes from. I’m going to check this out further in the morning.

I just checked the Std. Catalogue of American Trucks and it only confirms what I just said. I might add that the engine in this one has had some work, and has been painted over because I would expect it to be gray in color (if it was a Cdn. it would be black). GMC used orange throughout the 50s on its own.

$20,000 is way too much for a long bed, about 1/2 that would be more realistic.

Waaaait a minute, a California truck with an engine heater? That doesn’t look right and neither does the 34K. That speedo probably quit working when I was just a wee one. Still, AD’s are hot, not sure why, I never cared for the AD. I love old trucks, but not for $20g’s. I know those trucks all too well to pay that kind of money for one. Too bad people find that out after they buy them.

Just to clear a little point, Fall River is in Massachusetts. Providence is not too far away. Nice looking truck. Hope that it is as described but I leave that to those who have better insight.

I’ve owned several of these AD trucks. $20000 is way too much for this truck. In the current condition with a non-original color paint job and a long bed, it’s worth in the $7500 to $10000 range. The motor isn’t original either. Looks like a later model 235.

AD stands for Advanced Design. This series started mid-year 1947 and lasted through mid-year 1955. The trucks looked almost identical through 1953. The 1954 model introduced a one-piece windshield and a different grill.

There is no such place as Falls River in Rhode Island

Fall River is in Mass not RI. The clutch pedal has a new pad and the brake pedal none so I vote for well over 34K miles.

Just a note of clarification. Fall River is in Massachusetts and not too far from Providence. The truck looks nice and I’ve seen a Ford of the same vintage with less than 6,000 miles from a large summer estate on the coast of Maine. So— I hope that this is as presented. Nice!!!

Breathtakingly beautiful. Too bad seller has it priced in the stratosphere. Sweet in the standard issue green!!

Good luck to the new owner!!

Yeah thats 3600. It has 8 foot bed and if you look at the interior pic it has 4 on the floor. 3100 1/2 tons had small bed and 3 on the tree. I have 51 3600
