My husband purchased his first Flatfender when he was 15 years old. He had to sell it before he could finish it due to some unfortunate family issues. When he was 24 years old he purchased two Jeeps after he returned from Afghanistan. Moving around in the military made it difficult to work on these Jeeps so he decided to sell them. This year we were finally able to buy a 1946 Willys CJ-2A and he has been able to work on it since the military is keeping us in one place for a little while. This is the first Jeep that he has been able to get up and running. The day he finally took it for a drive around the block all the neighbors came pouring out to celebrate. As a gift to him I took these vintage inspired pictures. He is far from getting this Jeep to a completed point (even though we all know there is no such thing as a completed Jeep), but we are a long way toward helping him finally complete his life long dream and there is no greater gift in his mind. Also our dog is named CJ.

As a Viet Nam Vet, I have lived, and appreciate your story. We have an original 1953 M38A1. Your husband is a very lucky guy and he knows it. The Jeep does nothing for you, But you do a lot for it!
Thank him again for his service.
Thank you for your service!!!!
I have a ’55 m38a1 with a warmed up 307 Chevy & a turbo 350 I’ve been working on for a lot of years. Just about ready to get it on the road!
Can’t hardly wait!!!!!
Awesome story and wonderful pictures! I was in the same situation, I was active duty for 22 years and never had the opportunity to “hang on to” a jeep for too long so I always had to sell them or keep a newer jeep/daily driver. Once I retired I bought something similar, a 1947 CJ2A which I restored as a WWII MB Clone. Since then (2003) I’ve gotten two more and have them all! Good Luck to you both and hope he keeps that Jeep!
Great photos and a fantastic story! I am retired from the military and certainly understand – some of our dreams and projects have to be put off for many many years…….a jeep restoration is definately worth the wait. Congratulations and we all honor your family’s service.
